For travelers, there are few things more annoying than a delayed flight. That's what Kristen Dundas of Windermere, Florida, thought until her Southwest Airlines flight from Orlando to Washington was delayed Thursday -- and she actually ended up enjoying the experience."My flight to Washington DC has been delayed for almost 2 and a half hours and I was getting HEATED until this gate agent started playing games with everyone waiting to pass the time and now I'm like I'll wait all damn night if you keep this up," she tweeted Thursday. The tweet included a video showing a gate agent hosting a contest for the "worst driver's license picture."The agent also hosted a paper airplane contest, said Dundas. She said winners were awarded vouchers and Southwest merchandise. In reply to Dundas' tweet, a Southwest Airlines representative replied: "I'm glad our agent was able to make the delay a little more bearable for y'all, Kristen! We hope to have you on your way ASAP."Although Dundas didn't participate in the games herself, she called the experience "awesome.""I was really irritated that the flight kept getting delayed because I was going for a quick weekend trip to DC to visit friends," she told CNN."Once he started playing games, I was laughing and having a great time and didn't even mind that the flight was delayed."The delay lasted about three hours, Dundas said. But when the flight took off, passengers clapped and cheered for the gate agents."This video is another great example of how we encourage our employees to have fun with customers," Dan Landson, a spokesman for Southwest Airlines, told CNN. 1630

How bad is the flooding across the central United States? A total of 70 river gauges along the Mississippi River and its tributaries are experiencing major flooding, and another 104 are seeing moderate flooding, as of Wednesday's latest data.In all, cities across the region, from Minneapolis down to New Orleans, have been slammed by heavy rain and flooding. And it's not over yet. More heavy rain is in the forecast for today, and over 10 million remain under flood warnings from Oklahoma into Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. The greatest flash flood potential will be from Texas into Arkansas, where 2 to 4 inches of rainfall will be common. Here's a look at the extent of this flooding across the region.OklahomaThe hardest hit areas will likely be along the Arkansas River, with a crest today in Tulsa near the record for the river. Floodwaters from the Arkansas River have inundated homes outside Tulsa, such as in these photos from May 23 in Sand Springs.Debbie Chavez, who has lived with her family in Sand Springs for 24 years, said evacuation started after the water was in the driveway of her neighbors' house last week. She took the below photos of the rising water.Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum warned his city to prepare for the "worst case scenario we've had" in the city's history of flooding.US Rep. Kevin Hern, who represents parts of Tulsa County and Sand Springs, said he was extremely concerned about the aging levees in his district."The devastation from the Arkansas River flooding is real, and the continued risk to citizens and businesses is equally as real," he said.ArkansasThe Arkansas River, already rising, will reach near-record or record levels -- above 40 feet in some areas -- Thursday afternoon, officials said."This is looking to be record-breaking all along the Arkansas River, and this is something we have never seen before," state emergency management spokeswoman Melody Daniel said.In Fort Smith, for example, people stood and looked out over the flooded Massard Creek last Saturday. While in Chaffee Crossing, volunteers filled sand bags in a parking lot, readying to distribute them to flood prone areas around homes. In Logan County, the sheriff posted photos of a levee along Highway 309 that has overtopped due to flooding.Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced that he'd conduct an aerial tour Thursday out of Fort Smith."This is a flood of historic magnitude, it surpasses all Arkansas flooding in our recorded history. That should be enough to get everyone's attention."MissouriJust in Missouri, 52 river gauges are in major flooding, and another 40 river gauges are experiencing moderate flooding. The flooding is particularly prevalent around St. Louis and its border with Illinois. One resident in Winfield, a city northwest of St. Louis, waded through the floodwater last Friday.Residents in Portage Des Sioux, outside St. Louis, watched as the water rose up to their home on Tuesday.IowaMississippi River gauges in Scott County, which includes Davenport, were in a major flooding zone on Wednesday. The flooding in Iowa was so bad that a Scott County flood assistance event scheduled for Wednesday was postponed because of rising waters.Continued rainfall and saturated ground conditions have affected the Iowa county for most of the year, according to the Scott County website. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich thanked President Donald Trump for commuting his prison sentence Wednesday in a press conference from his home in Chicago.Blagojevich, a Democrat, declared himself a "Trumpocrat," and said he would vote for Trump in November should he be allowed to.Blagojevich also praised Trump for passing bipartisan criminal reform legislation and called for further changes to a "broken" and "racist" criminal justice system.Constantly dabbing a shaving cut on his chin — adding that it's been a long time since he'd used a "real" razor — Blagojevich maintained his innocence for a 2009 conviction for lying to the FBI.Blagojevich was impeached as Illinois governor in 2008 after allegations arose that he ran a "pay-to-play" scheme to replace the Senate seat formerly held by President Barack Obama. He was indicted on federal charges in 2009, though he was only found guilty on a single count of lying to the FBI.Blagojevich served eight years of a 14-year sentence. 1009

FULTON COUNTY — A jury has found a woman guilty on all counts for hitting and killing three children and seriously injuring a fourth as they attempted to get on a school bus last year.Sentencing for Alyssa Shepherd will be held Dec. 18.Closing arguments wrapped up this afternoon in the case against Shepherd who is accused of striking and killing 6-year-old twins Mason and Xzavier Ingle and their 9-year-old sister Alivia Stahl in October 2018. Police and prosecutors have alleged Shepherd drove past a school bus stop arm near Rochester. A fourth child, Maverik Lowe, 11 at the time, was also struck and seriously injured. Lowe survived.Shepherd was charged with three counts of reckless homicide, one count of passing a school bus causing injury and one count of criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury."The biggest thing with it is the total lack of braking the amount of distance that was covered and seeing something in the roadway on a Tuesday morning when it's school time and just barreling into it not slowing down. We felt like was just unacceptable," Fulton County Prosecutor Mike Marrs said. The childrens' mother, Brittany Ingle, spoke to reporters afterward and said she did not believe Shepherd showed any remorse at the trial."What I want to tell you as a mother, from one mother to another, when I was sitting up there giving my testimony, I looked at her straight in the eyes because you just want some feeling you just want something. and she gave nothing," Ingle said. "I was crying telling them how I found my sons in the road and she had no remorse, no emotion, and that hurt worse because she acted as if our kids were in the way, and if they were, they kind of ruined her life and she ruined ours."According to RTV6's newsgathering partner, WROI Giant FM Radio, Shepherd took the stand in her own defense.Shepherd testified she didn't take State Road 25 often, perhaps a couple times a week and not usually that early or late at night, WROI reported. Shepherd cried on the stand as she told jurors she could not process that it was a school bus until she saw kids and by then it was too late. 2146
