CARLSBAD (KGTV) — A woman visiting Legoland in Carlsbad was stunned when she spotted someone angling their phone into her changing stall at the water park. "I saw a phone at the corner, which is under the divider of the stalls. So I called out to that person, 'Excuse me, what's that phone doing there?'" Carisma Jucaban recalled. She thought it may have been a child or just an accident, but it was not."As soon as I heard the door open, I ran out to take a look, but he was already making a turn. And I was kind of standing there like, 'What just happened?' My husband is looking at me like, What's going on?' I was like, 'Did you see that guy?'" Jucaban explained.Jucaban immediately reported the man to Legoland security and within hours they found him. Carlsbad police arrested 26-year-old Anthony Galindo of Los Angeles. "They looked through his phone and found a bunch of disturbing — they didn't really specify what it was — I don't really want to know. And from there, the police arrested him," she said.Legoland released a statement that reads in part: "Park staff acted promptly as the safety and security of park guests is the number one priority. Park officials are assisting Carlsbad police with the investigation."The information about the suspect's phone was given to Jucaban by security. It has not been verified by Carlsbad police. 1356

CAPE YORK, Australia – Australian scientists say they’ve discovered a massive new coral reef that’s taller than the Empire State Building. The scientists were aboard a research vessel exploring the sea when they found the detached structure in the Great Barrier Reef last week, according to a press release from the Schmidt Ocean Institute. The institute says the “blade-like” reef is the first to be discovered in over 120 years. On Sunday, the institute’s team conducted a dive using an underwater robot to explore the new reef and learned that it's more than 500 meters high, the base is about 1.5 kilometers wide and it rises to its shallowest depth of only 40 meters below the sea surface. The newly discovered reef adds to the seven other tall detached reefs found in the area since the late 1800s.“This unexpected discovery affirms that we continue to find unknown structures and new species in our ocean,” said Wendy Schmidt, co-founder of Schmidt Ocean Institute. “The state of our knowledge about what’s in the ocean has long been so limited. Thanks to new technologies that work as our eyes, ears and hands in the deep ocean, we have the capacity to explore like never before. New oceanscapes are opening to us, revealing the ecosystems and diverse life forms that share the planet with us.”This isn’t the institute’s first big discovery of the year, though. In April, scientists also discovered the longest recorded sea creature–a 45-meter siphonophore in Ningaloo Canyon, in addition to up to 30 new species.“To find a new half-a-kilometer tall reef in the offshore Cape York area of the well-recognized Great Barrier Reef shows how mysterious the world is just beyond our coastline,” said Dr. Jyotika Virmani, executive director of Schmidt Ocean Institute. “This powerful combination of mapping data and underwater imagery will be used to understand this new reef and its role within the incredible Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.” 1957

CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Border Patrol Sunday rescued a Mexican national with serious injuries they say was left behind by a criminal smuggling organization. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department notified the agency around 4 a.m. December 1 about a distress call of a man in a rural area near Lake Morena Reservoir. The 34-year-old man was suffering from a serious leg injury, Border Patrol says. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital to undergo “extensive surgery to repair his leg.” “I am proud that the agents continue to go above and beyond with their acts of service,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison. “These Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCO) are exploiting, abusing, and profiting from the desperation of these vulnerable people.”RELATED: Border Patrol rescues 5 migrants stranded in Otay mountainsThrough Thanksgiving weekend, San Diego Sector Border Patrol says agents found a body and rescued more than 20 people as inclement weather moved through the county. 1217
