SAN DIEGO (CNS) - While the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend people stay at home this holiday season to avoid spreading COVID-19, officials at San Diego International Airport released some tips for those who are traveling as this traditional major travel weekend begins.According to the airport guidance, all travelers should practice preventative health measures such as washing hands often, avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth, social distancing at least 6 feet from others, covering coughs and sneezes, and monitoring daily health by conducting a temperature check prior to arriving at the airport. The California Department of Public Health requires all individuals to wear a face covering while on airport property. Face coverings are available at airport information desks, concessionaires, and vending machines located in the terminals.Travelers should have a clear understanding of state, local, and territorial governments travel restrictions for wherever they are headed, including testing requirements, stay-at-home orders and quarantine requirements.Airlines have implemented COVID-19 health and safety measures for check in, boarding, and while on the plane. Passengers should understand the expectations of the specific airline they are using prior to arriving at the airport.Transportation Security Administration security checkpoints are open and all passengers are required to go through screening. The San Diego Airport Authority encourages travelers to leave ample time, preferably two hours, to get through security and to their gate.Rental Car Center buses require social distancing and therefore are running at reduced capacity. Plan ahead and leave ample time to accommodate longer shuttle wait times. The trolley provides service to the terminals at Palm Street on the Rental Car Center shuttles. The MTS 992 bus is another public transportation option.Rideshare companies, taxis, and other transportation modes have implemented their own health and safety measures. Travelers should review their policies so they can safely comply with any health and safety requirements.There is no inter-terminal shuttle service during this time. Some shops and restaurants are open to provide travel necessities, meals, snacks, and more, however availability and hours may vary. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 2018 was a big year for SeaWorld and new rides opening in San Diego seem to be paying off. In a new report, the company announced its first increase in attendance since 2015. A newly-released report by SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. found that attendance increased to 22.6 million guests in 2018, up more than eight percent. According to Statista, 2018 marked the first time SeaWorld saw an increase in attendance since 2015. The report comes as SeaWorld San Diego gets ready to open another big attraction this spring. Construction on a new roller coaster, called Tidal Twister, is set to be finished in May. The coaster will feature a figure-8, horizontal design and dueling trains. Riders will be able to sit both backward and forward. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A day-long technology fair promises to give senior citizens all the tools they need to stay up-to-date in the digital age.San Diego Oasis will host the tech fair at the Grossmont Center movie theaters on Tuesday, October 15."We're covering all areas of life," says Oasis CEO Simona Valanciute. "We want to show how technology can make it more fun, more safe and more connected."Classes at the fair will cover iPhone basics, podcasting, micro-mobility options, voice-enabled tech, cloud storage, identity theft, cord-cutting and more.Norma Mendenhall has taken a handful of iPhone classes at Oasis already. She says this kind of education is vital for her peers."As a senior, sitting at home, thinking that's not for me, I can't do that, I'm nervous about it, this is the place to take all of that doubt away," says Mendenhall.That advice is the same thing San Diego County officials want to spread. According to the County, there will be 1.2 million people above age 65 by the year 2030. Making sure they all are connected is key to keeping them safe."We've really never seen this kind of demographic shift," says Valanciute. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A broken fire hydrant sent thousands of gallons of water gushing into the air Friday, damaging home on the 5100 block of Mariner Drive, near Otay Mesa.  The home received flood damage on the first floor of the house, as well as the yard. The cars in the driveway were drenched as well.  Water was gushing from the broken hydrant for nearly 20 minutes, according to the homeowner, Gary Birtwell.  "It was coming in through the backdoor," Birtwell said. "We had about 6 inches of water in the back yard that basically filled up above the door. And it was coming in through a closed window on the side of the house. We had water that came in through the ventilation." A neighbor's security video captured what appears to be a white SUV pulling into the curb then hitting the hydrant. Water begins gushing, and the SUV takes off.  Police officers took the neighbor's security video from the scene and were looking for more footage of the incident. 1015

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A frustrated neighborhood in Sabre Springs is preparing to fight back amid a string of car break-ins.Bill Powers owns a townhouse just off Poway Road where Sabre Springs meets Poway. A year ago, he says the reports on social media of car prowlers started to climb."Anger and frustration that it's happening right on my back doorstep," said Powers.An idea was born from that frustration.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"I think the use of a bait car would be really helpful," said Powers.He recently proposed the idea online and almost immediately, someone already volunteered their old car.Powers says the bait will be something like a used laptop, placed in plain view.  He'll pitch in some of the cameras, including GoPro cameras, to be mounted on homes and windows."Our goal is to get decent footage of the act and share it with proper authorities," said Powers.Powers is also looking for help."I have volunteers but definitely need more," said Powers.He's hoping for neighbors willing to take a shift watching the car. Powers tells 10News the volunteers will be following an "Observe and Report" to police or deputies protocol. Powers hopes to have the bait car up and running in the next few months.
