There really have been a couple of creepy stories in recent days about hackers breaking into people’s Ring security cameras.“There is actually a channel that someone has put together, like a YouTube channel, of hacked-into security cameras,” says Bob O’Donnell, the president of TECHnalysis Research. “And they’re trying to do it for fun and they’re harassing the people. I mean, it’s really sick.”O’Donnell says it’s not likely this has anything to do with security camera system, but rather how the owner sets them up. “People who are just using the basic default settings or doing no password because the convenience of wanting to get in there to change their settings, are leaving themselves open for people to come in from the outside,” the tech expert says.Hackers often reuse stolen or leaked credentials. They could get the info from past data breaches that expose usernames and passwords that people use on multiple devices.O’Donnell says people should change their security camera passwords regularly and set up two-factor authentication.“Basically, it means the equivalent of like a fingerprint scan and a password or a hardware key and a password, or a facial scan and a fingerprint,” O’Donnell says. “Bottom line is it’s two different things you need to get into to access your account.”O’Donnell says the bottom line is security cameras do bring peace of mind and convenience when they’re managed properly. 1433

The Supreme Court declined Monday to take up a case brought by a former student at a prestigious Washington, DC, prep school who alleged discrimination affected her chances for college admission.Dayo Adetu and her parents, Titilayo and Nike Adetu, say that the private Sidwell Friends School -- the elite school attended by a who's who of Beltway families, including presidential daughters Sasha and Malia Obama and Chelsea Clinton as well as former Vice President Joe Biden's granddaughter Maisy -- breached a settlement with the family after it allegedly discriminated against Adetu, an African-American, in the grades she received while in high school and then in materials Sidwell submitted as she applied to colleges."Sidwell has long been perceived as a 'feeder-school' to Ivy League institutions and other top universities," the Adetus wrote in their appeal to the Supreme Court. Adetu, however, was not immediately accepted by any university. The appeal was rejected without comment.During her initial first round of applications -- when she applied to Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Duke, Johns Hopkins, CalTech, MIT, the University of Virginia, McGill and Spelman -- Adetu "was the only student in her graduating class of 126 students who did not receive unconditional acceptance from any educational institution to which she applied," according to the Supreme Court petition.Adetu ultimately attended the University of Pennsylvania in 2015 after applying to colleges again, according to the complaint, and indicated on social media that she graduated last month. The family sought review of a decision by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in January that said the Adetus' claim was rightly rejected by a lower court because they had failed to show "any adverse action taken by Sidwell" and were only claiming emotional damages for an alleged breach of an earlier mediated settlement. 1932
TUCSON, Ariz. — While the fight over border wall funding will apparently lead to a partial shut down of the federal government, political supporters of President Donald Trump are taking matters into their own hands.A viral crowdfunding effort on for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border has raised millionBy Friday morning at around 11:30 a.m. ET, a GoFundMe page titled "We The People Will Fund The Wall" passed million from nearly 200,000 donors. The funds were raised in just five days — but the campaign is just at just 1 percent of its billion goal. If the current pace of donations continue, the campaign would hit its goal in May of 2020.The campaign was started by Brian Kolfage, a triple amputee veteran and outspoken supporter of President Trump. While his GoFundMe page states that he has reached out to the Trump Administration in order to "secure a point of contact where all the funds will go upon completion," the White House has not yet publicly commented on the GoFundMe Campaign.Kolfage is able to keep every donation he receives, regardless if he reaches his goal. Donations are currently being sent to his GoFundMe account, though he asks that check be made payable to "WeFund The Wall"While it is true that some federal agencies will accept donations earmarked for specific projects, it 1326
