FRANKLIN, Indiana — Authorities in Indiana are warning people of a scam involving a person who is claiming to be a sheriff's deputy in order to deceive people into sending money.According to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, a woman came to the Johnson County Jail on Wednesday who said while she was at work she received a call from an individual who claimed to be a sheriff's deputy. The individual told the woman she had a warrant for her arrest due to failure to appear for jury duty selection. The suspect told the woman if she wanted to avoid arrest she needed to pay the fines by purchasing ,000 worth of Apple Store gift cards. The suspect also told the woman she would need to go to the sheriff's office with her receipts to prove her identity. After making the initial purchase in pre-paid gift cards, the suspect informed the woman 0 was not transferred, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect reportedly told the woman to purchase another 0 in pre-paid Apple gift cards. The woman said she was on the phone with the suspect for approximately two hours until all the transactions were made and confirmed. For the first time since the Camp Fire started its deadly rampage 11 days ago, firefighters will get a big assist from rain. The 4 to 6 inches expected later this week will help suppress an inferno that has already killed at least 77 people. It'll also finally improve the heavily polluted and unhealthy air smothering Northern California. But there's a catch: With more than 150,000 acres of newly scorched earth, there's little vegetation to soak up the rain. That means the region is now at risk of mudslides, which could be especially dangerous for firefighters battling the inferno."They're having to fight this fire right now in the mountainous areas -- the ravines, the canyons, very steep, rugged terrain," said Scott McLean, deputy chief for Cal Fire -- the state's forestry and fire protection agency."They're back there on dirt roads, dirt trails, trying to fight this fire. Now it's going to turn into mud, which will be another hazard for them to contend with."Along with mudslides comes the risk of debris flow gushing from the Camp Fire's charred rubble."Recently burned areas could see ash flow ... and even have the potential for debris flow if rain intensity is high enough," the National Weather Service's Sacramento office said.Since the Camp Fire broke out November 8, it's destroyed more than 10,500 homes and torched an area the size of Chicago.Even worse: Fire officials predict the Camp Fire is only halfway done burning. According to Cal Fire, the blaze might not be fully contained until November 30.  1538

FORTVILLE, Ind. — We continue to learn more about COVID-19 especially the symptoms and researchers are finding survivors are still dealing with the virus months after beating it.“Luckily for me, I did not have a severe case,” Nikki Privett said. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April.“I thought everything was fine. I thought, OK, the worst part was my eyes hurt to move,” Privett said. She thought she was in the clear until several months later when she says her hair was coming out in chunks.“At the end of June I noticed, you know girls our hair always falls out in the shower, but I noticed that more and more was coming out in my hands and then eventually in July it became handfuls and I was shocked and I was trying to figure out what was happening,” Privett said.“The long-term symptoms are you know there's a lot more of them than we expected,” said Dr. Natalie Lambert, an associate research professor at Indiana School of Medicine.Lambert said they’ve found COVID survivors are feeling a wide range symptom including hair loss.“We're finding that hair loss is temporary so that when the body starts to recover because it's a huge shock to have COVID-19 the virus impacts many different bodily systems at once so your whole-body needs time to recover,” Lambert said.“I hope that all of this is just temporary and that our bodies will learn to fight this,” Privett said.Lambert said a symptom that is really concerning to her and other researchers is vision changes. She said it’s important that you stay in tune with your body and question anything that doesn’t feel right. This story was first reported by Kelsey Anderson at WRTV in Indianapolis, Indiana. 1675
