Three Metro-North Railroad workers have been suspended for turning a storage room under Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal into an unauthorized “man cave” with a television, a refrigerator, a microwave, a futon couch and more.A Metropolitan Transportation Authority Inspector General investigation found that Metro-North managers were unaware of the hideaway in a storage room located behind a locked door, beneath Track 114.Railroad officials said Thursday that a wireman, a carpenter foreman and an electrical foreman have been suspended without pay pending disciplinary hearings.Inside the room, investigators found personal property and evidence that implicated the three employees. This included a receipt with the wireman's name on it, a streaming device connected to a hotspot associated with the carpenter foreman's phone, personal calendars, and a pull-up bar with a shipping sticker reading the name of the electrical foreman.The Office of the MTA Inspector General launched the investigation after learning of complaints about the room from anonymous tips, the MTA said.Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi released the following statement Thursday: The behavior described in the IG’s report is outrageously inappropriate and is not consistent with Metro-North’s values and the commitment that we have to providing safe, reliable and cost-efficient service to our customers. All three employees were immediately suspended without pay and are being disciplined in accordance with their collective bargaining agreements. NEW ORLEANS, La. – Just before the lunch rush at one New Orleans restaurant, the hottest spot is the kitchen. The place is Café Reconcile: a restaurant that caters to both customers and its employees. “It’s not your typical job. It’s not the typical restaurant,” said Chef Eugene Charles Temple, Jr. “We come in here to change lives.” The café specializes in teaching culinary skills to disadvantaged young people, by training them to take on all aspects of restaurant work. It goes far beyond that, though. The café offers counseling and teaches classes on life skills – like how to open a bank account. “No one’s forcing them to come here,” said Gerald Duhon, Executive Director of Café Reconcile. “They want a change in their life.” Ahmaad Lott felt that first-hand. “To be honest, you know, I wasn’t in a great situation,” Lott said. Several years ago, he was facing mental health issues. Lott got help and eventually rose through the ranks at Café Reconcile to become a trainer to others dealing with similar circumstances. “That was me a few years ago,” Lott said. “I barely know this young person, but to know their story resonates to my story so deeply, and in a way that, you know, we can share our experiences and grow together.” Several thousand young people have graduated from Café Reconcile since it began more than two decades ago. However, the issue of “disconnected youth” is not limited to New Orleans. A 2014 Tulane University study found that, across the country, there are 6.7 million disconnected youth, costing the U.S. economy billion a year in lost tax revenues and needed social services. “The way we look at it is our young people don’t have anything wrong with them,” Duhon said. “What they have that many young people do not have is support—and particularly support around the barriers that are in their life.” It’s a support for which Ahmaad Lott says he’s grateful. “That gave me that avenue, that gave me that channel to really make something of myself,” he said. Lott has now also worked in a five-star restaurant in the French Quarter, following in the footsteps of thousands of others who found refuge at Reconcile. CINCINNATI -- The man who told police he was a missing boy from Illinois when he was found in Newport, Kentucky on Wednesday, is now being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Ohio on an FBI detainer, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Brian Michael Rini, 23, was booked into the jail at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, according to the jail's website. It's not yet clear what charges Rini could face. 429
