SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego may be America's Finest City, but when it comes to parking around town, the experience is not always a pleasant one. "It's horrific," said Shadrach Vaughn the founder of Park Connect. Vaughn recently launched Park Connect in July. The company's goal is to help connect homeowners or businesses who have empty parking spots, with people who need them. The owner or business can list their spot on the Park Connect website, and select a daily, monthly or hourly rate. Giving the host the flexibility to decide what to charge for their spot. RELATED: Making It In San Diego complete coverage"One day I thought, like how about an Airbnb for parking?" Vaughn said. Sara Ghodsi, one of Park Connect users, has her empty spot listed for  an hour, a day, or 0 for the entire month. And in two months, she says she has made 0. "This spot is always open. I figured I might as well get some type of income coming in." Ghodsi said. As long as people continue to hit the beaches and streets of San Diego, Vaughn says, he will continue to help people fill their parking spots and their pockets. Vaughn said, "San Diego is expensive, right? So for anyone an extra 0 a month, 0 a month, I would like that. I'm just happy to be part of it."For more information on Park Connect, check out their website here. 1414

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the public to help find the driver who left a man with several severe injuries along an Ocean Beach street last month.Police say at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 6, a 64-year-old man was walking his bike northbound in the bicycle lane of the 4000 block of Nimitz Blvd. The suspect, driving a newer model Nissan Versa Note hatchback (shown below), struck the victim. The driver sped off, leaving the man severely injured. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from several fractures to his pelvis, ribs, fibula, and foot. He also suffered lacerations and injuries to his bladder and liver. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is giving dockless scooters and bikes preferred parkingThe city is in the process of installing 330 rideshare scooter and bike spaces throughout downtown. The first few of them have been spotted in Cortez Hill. “I think it’s smart,” said Carlos Navarro who work at a restaurant in the Gaslamp “they drive by our store — running into the customers or hit the cars that are parked.” The city says the spaces are being placed at red zones where cars cannot park. “It’s not going to be as crowded or cluttered,” said scooter rider Autumn McFeeley, “the city must really like them.” A class action lawsuit was filed against the city earlier this year claiming San Diego has failed to maintain pathways for people with disabilities. “Allowing there to to be safe storage and parking for those vehicles off the sidewalk is a much better approach, said Colin Parent with Circulate San Diego, “it’ll help minimize those kinds of conflicts” The city of San Diego says more information will be made available about this project in coming days. 1069
