Legislation requiring shoppers to wear masks in New Jersey stores is one step closer to becoming law.A bill proposed by state Democratic lawmakers got the stamp of approval from a New Jersey Assembly committee Thursday.If passed, customers could be fined between and 0 for being in a business without a mask that covers the nose and mouth. The bill would apply to any store that has posted signage saying masks are required.Assembly Democrats who backed the bill called the legislation "a matter of life and death" and said there needs to be a penalty for those who don't do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.Republican lawmakers called the bill ludicrous and an attack on residents' civil liberties.Some suggested a better policy would be for businesses to refuse to serve customers who choose not to wear masks.Hoboken, New Jersey tried to pass a similar mask ordinance in August, attempting to fine people 0 for not wearing a mask in any place where social distancing was not possible. It ultimately did not pass.In New York City, MTA riders can now be fined for refusing to wear a mask on buses, subways and trains.As of midnight in Connecticut, anyone can now be fined 0 for violating mask and social distancing orders. LARGO, Fla. — A Largo teen is being hailed a hero for his quick thinking and calm demeanor, two things paramedics say were crucial in saving his dad's life.In August, then 18-year-old Zachary Musgrave reacted in seconds after his dad had a major heart attack in the basement of the family's home."I was pretty terrified. I just held myself together the best I could," Musgrave said.Musgrave quickly dialed 911 an got through to 911 telecommunicator Matthew Albright, who coached him through performing CPR for the very first time."He was cool, calm and collected and followed directions to do exactly what he needed to do," Albright said.For seven minutes, Musgrave performed CPR on his dad before paramedics arrived. It's something first responders say saved his dad's life.Niesa Jones was one of the first Sunstar Paramedics to arrive on the scene."That's absolutely what happened," she said. "His son saved his life. We helped."David Musgrave, Zachary's father, was rushed to Largo Medical Center, and just nine days after his heart attack, he was cleared to come home. Paramedics called his recovery a miracle because he came into the hospital under cardiac arrest with a 100% blockage in his left anterior descending artery — what some refer to as a "widowmaker heart attack.""I looked at his charts and it's truly a miracle that the man is walking," said Patti Squires, the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Largo Medical Center.David Musgrave says his son has become his hero."I'm so proud of him. If it wasn't for him starting the process, I probably wouldn't be here," he said."I'm just thankful that I was there and I was able to save my dad. I'm just happy he's here with us today," Zachary Musgrave said.On Wednesday, David Musgrave and his four children met the first responders that helped keep him alive.Alana Morris, one of the first Largo Firefighter paramedics to arrive on the scene, said the ceremony was touching."To actually have a patient come back and thank us for what we did and to see him alive was just a great experience. There are no words to describe that," Morris said.Now, the Musgrave family's story is inspiring a new mission to save lives.On Nov. 3 at noon, Largo Medical Center will offer free hands-only CPR training online, which will be open to everyone. (KGTV) -- "As young as I can remember my mom always helped out less fortunate people in the community, I remember delivering boxes of frozen hamburgers and roasts and things like that." Giving back are two simple words but for Linda Anderson, those words bring her back to childhood, and the memory of her late mother."We had a neighbor that was elderly and my mom would cook them meals and bring them over there, and she always had some little old lady in town that she would bring to their doctor's appointments. She'd bring them food, take them grocery shopping and clean their house," Linda recalled.But as Linda's mother got older, she was no longer on the giving, but on the receiving end. She received food and other essentials from Meals on Wheels, a nationwide organization that helped seniors living along, who are trying to do things on their own."They really made a big difference between her able to live at home independently, than being placed in a care facility," said Erica Peterson, Linda's friend.When Linda's mother passed, they wanted to honor her in a way that would make her smile, even from above. They created over a thousand gift bags with toiletries, office supplies and other goodies thanks to donations that were made in her honor."I think it'd mean a lot to her, I think it'd make her feel very loved and appreciated," said Linda. She added they were helping an organization that helped others, just like her mother did."They really need a lot of help especially during pandemic. They've had a lot of issues and they haven't seen a lot of donations they regularly have. I hope it puts a smile on their face. I know when my mom got a visitor and got a gift it always put a smile on her face. I think that's what we're trying to do, pay it forward and put a little bright spot in someones life." 1849

Lawyers for Breonna Taylor allege in court records that she was targeted in a police operation to gentrify a neighborhood in western Louisville. Taylor was shot and killed back in March by Louisville Metro Police officers when police conducted a “no-knock raid” on her home. Thinking the police officers were intruders, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, allegedly shot at police.Officers returned fire, striking, and killing Taylor.According to the lawsuit, which was filed Sunday in Jefferson Circuit Court on behalf of Taylor's family, lawyers said there were plans underway for a "high dollar, legacy-creating real estate development" for Elliot Avenue. Taylor's ex-boyfriend Jamarcus Cordell Glover was renting a home on the street and it created a "roadblock" for the project, court documents stated."The police unit's efforts to clean house on Elliott became so outrageous, unlawful, corrupt, and reckless that a bogus, no-knock search warrant was obtained for the home of Breonna Taylor, a woman with no criminal history, no drugs in her home, no targets in her home, and whose home was more than 10 miles from Elliott Avenue," lawyers stated in the court documents.Lawyer's Ben Crump and his co-counselors Sam Aguiar and Lonita Baker issued a statement about the refiling.“Connecting the dots, it’s clear that these officers should never have been at Breonna Taylor’s home in the first place, and that they invaded the residence with no probable cause," they said in a joint press release. "The officers who robbed Breonna of her life -- and Tamika Palmer of her daughter -- exhibited outrageous, reckless, willful, wanton, and unlawful conduct. As a consequence, the city lost one of its most precious essential frontline workers, who risked her life daily to save her fellow residents in a pandemic. LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — Pasco County, Florida Sheriff's Office is investigating in incident where a Sunlake High School Resource Officer slammed a student during an arrest.PCSO says that the incident occurred Tuesday when the school administration requested the school resource officer, Rich Stackon, remove a student from the cafeteria.Leading up to the incident, school administrators asked the student to return to class several times before the SRO was called in. The student was reportedly skipping class and being disruptive.According to deputies, when the male SRO attempted to place the female student in custody she resisted arrest.In a video, recorded by another student, the SRO can be seen slamming the student to the ground after resisting. 784
