SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A known homeless encampment was cleared this week after employees who work nearby said they were terrorized.The encampment on Federal Boulevard near the 805 overpass was cleared of the usual campers, RVs, stuffed cars, tents and debris commuters often saw driving by.Cal Trans said it did a clean up of the area and California Highway Patrol issued a notice to vacate 72 hours before Monday morning.Nearby, employees who didn't want to reveal where they worked for fear of retaliation said homeless people caused hundreds of dollars in damage. "Windows have been smashed, a mirror was smashed," Jim Withrow said. He described an incident in which an employee coming into work heard a woman scream in the bushes, and was rattled as she rushed to the front door.Another Central San Diego worker said a homeless man jumped the fence and walked toward the front door as an employee was trying to get in. The employee entered and the homeless man shook the door trying to open it. Another employee opened the door and found out he wanted water. She said he didn't seem to be 'all there.'Withrow said the past few months have become more intense; "people who didn't seem to have all their facilities screaming and screaming at people going by."The company went to San Diego Police for help and started putting on pressure.Withrow said he saw the change instantly. "I came around the corner off of 47th and onto Federal and wow, there's no one there."Another employee said it took months to get to this point.San Diego Police told 10News they've been educating the vagrants, and issuing warnings.Along the street, new signs are posted every few yards reading "No littering or dumping.""It feels good, I feel safer. I feel safer because my employees feel safer," Withrow said.As for where the vagrants went, 10News went to the newest Safe Parking lot, run by Jewish Family Services, and it appeared vacant.The last time the Webster street was cleared out was December 2018. The huge undertaking took three days, and was short-lived."They did come right back," Withrow said.This time employees nearby hope the extra signage and police awareness will make a difference. "Hopefully the signs keep us safe out here but there's gotta be other things to do to help the people who are hurting too," he said.A new San Diego ordinance passed in May restricts people from living in their vehicles anywhere within 500 feet of a school or residence. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A New York-based pastor who was placed on a government watchlist after traveling to Tijuana to work with migrants is suing the federal government. Kaji Dousa is the senior pastor at Park Avenue Christian Church in New York and a member of the New Sanctuary Coalition, which works with immigrant communities.She had also been the senior pastor at the Table United Church of Christ in La Mesa for several years until 2016.According to a federal complaint, in November, Dousa started traveling to Tijuana as migrants from caravans continued filling the churches and shelters of the border city.“What I do is I go and meet and pray with people. I listen to them. I offer all the gifts of pastoral office,” said Dousa.She traveled multiple times across the border until January, when she was stopped by border agents and taken into a secondary screening area.According to the complaint, a Customs and Border Protection officer interrogated her, at one point asking “about Pastor Dousa’s assistance to asylum seekers and whether she encouraged them to lie in asylum applications.”Dousa denied the claims, but explained “that sometimes during her ministry she assisted asylum seekers, many of whom speak no English, in explaining what caused them to flee their homes,” according to the complaint. 1316

According to the San Diego Police Department, Jose Corona went missing from the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood at some point during the day Saturday, but was located Sunday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
