SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County health officials have reported 2,490 new COVID-19 infections and 14 new deaths, marking 104,958 total cases and 1,151 total deaths.Saturday marked the fourth consecutive day that more than 2,000 new cases were reported, with 2,867 cases -- a record -- reported Friday, 2,050 reported Thursday and 2,104 Wednesday. It is also the 12th day with more than 1,000 new cases. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- San Diego Gas & Electric announced Monday that its residential customers will get a 5% reduction in pricing starting July 1 to help them deal with hot weather while spending more time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.The new pricing for customers enrolled in the Time-of-Use DR1 pricing plan will last through Oct. 31 and applies to all three time-of-use periods: on- peak, off-peak and super off-peak, according to SDG&E.With the new pricing, a customer using an average of 400 kWh per month could see a bill decrease of about .80 per month, according to the company.For customers in the California Alternate Rates for Energy Program -- a bill discount program that offers a reduction of 30% or more on monthly bills -- an average usage of 400 kWh per month could see a bill decrease of about .96 per month with the new pricing.The California Public Utilities Commission recently approved the new pricing plan, which will also implement a 4% increase in pricing from Nov. 1 through May 31."Given the financial hardships the pandemic has caused, providing some bill relief to our customers as summer approaches was a priority for us, and we are appreciative that the CPUC agreed," said Dan Skopec, SDG&E's vice president of regulatory affairs. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Gulls coach Dallas Eakins was Monday named the coach of its NHL parent team, the Anaheim Ducks.Eakins coached the Gulls throughout their four seasons in the American Hockey League, guiding them to a 154-95-23 record and three Calder Cup playoff berths. They reached the Western Division finals in the recently concluded 2018-19 season.The Gulls had the best record in the AHL's Pacific Division since its inception in the 2015-16 season.The 52-year-old Eakins called his hiring as the Ducks' coach ``a tremendous honor for my family.''``I am truly humbled,'' Eakins said. ``It was a privilege to serve as head coach of the San Diego Gulls during our first four seasons and I look forward to build off that success here in Anaheim.''Eakins replaces Randy Carlyle, who was fired on Feb. 10. The fire was isolated to the commercial structure, sheriff's officials said.No injuries were reported. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Reversing a vote from last week, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Monday approved four satellite voting offices ahead of the March primary election, over the fierce objections of one member. The vote was 3-1. Supervisors Greg Cox, Nathan Fletcher and Dianne Jacob were in favor, while Supervisor Jim Desmond was opposed. Supervisor Kristin Gaspar left the chamber before the board voted, after saying she was ``being asked to revisit a vote that we have already made, to overturn the will of this board.'' She also said that this morning's special meeting was planned by three members of the board, and that neither she nor Desmond were asked to attend. Jacob, who chairs the board and requested the special meeting, did not offer a formal response to Gaspar's allegation. The satellite voting office proposal stemmed in part from state legislation, recently signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, that allows Californians to register to vote on election day at local polling places and voting centers.
