ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Department of the Interior has approved an oil and gas leasing program within Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.The refuge is home to polar bears, caribou and other wildlife.Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt signed the Record of Decision, which will determine where oil and gas leasing will take place in the refuge’s coastal plain.He said in a statement Monday it was a significant step in determining where and under what conditions oil and gas development will occur.Congress approved the program in 2017, and the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management in December 2018 concluded drilling could be conducted within the coastal plain area without harming wildlife. 716

An Arizona man says he discovered something disgusting in his Culver's butter burger, and now he wants answers.Najib Anek says he bit into a fake fingernail that fell off the finger of an employee who made his food at the Culver's in Peoria. "It was inside the sandwich halfway through," Anek said. "It was crunchy man. I threw up three times."Anek said he complained to management, and they apologized.He also said the store's management watched the surveillance video and saw the female employee making his burger without gloves and missing a fingernail.Maricopa County food inspection records show the Culver's location has all "A" ratings going back to 2015. Now, that could change. "Yes, I called the health department, and I have a complaint number," Anek said. The Culver's manager said their insurance is looking into the situation and the offending employee is on leave.  958

An Arizona resident captured a dangerous encounter between a bobcat and rattlesnake earlier this week. The video taken by Laura Lucky in Scottsdale shows the pair facing off along a sidewalk. The bobcat paws and bites at the snake as it tries to slither away and, at times, strike back. An undocumented immigrant was shot and killed Wednesday by a US Customs and Border Protection officer in Rio Bravo, Texas, according to a CBP news release.A Border Patrol agent responded to a report of illegal activity near a culvert and discovered a group of undocumented immigrants, the agency said.The agent tried to apprehend the group but he came under attack by multiple people using blunt objects. The agent fired at least one round, fatally wounding one person, CBP said.The names of the agent and the dead person have not been released, but a bystander video posted on Facebook said the latter was a woman.In the video, a woman yells at an officer: "Why are you mistreating them? ANAHEIM (CNS) - A man working in a trench at Disneyland in Anaheim suffered fatal injuries Thursday when a steel plate fell on him. Paramedics were called to the park about 3:20 a.m., a Metro Net Fire dispatcher said. Javier Jimenez, a 37-year-old West Covina resident, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Coroner's Office. Jimenez was working for a contractor installing piping for a heating and air conditioning system outside of the theme park on Disneyland property, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. Wyatt said a crane carrying a large pipe accidentally struck a cross beam, which knocked over a large metal plate shoring up a wall. He said the metal plate knocked over the worker, who was in an 8- to 10-foot-deep trench. ``We are saddened by this tragic accident involving a contractor and on behalf of Disneyland Resort extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Jimenez's family, friends and co-workers,'' said Liz Jaeger, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman. 1065
