SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A broken fire hydrant sent thousands of gallons of water gushing into the air Friday, damaging home on the 5100 block of Mariner Drive, near Otay Mesa.  The home received flood damage on the first floor of the house, as well as the yard. The cars in the driveway were drenched as well.  Water was gushing from the broken hydrant for nearly 20 minutes, according to the homeowner, Gary Birtwell.  "It was coming in through the backdoor," Birtwell said. "We had about 6 inches of water in the back yard that basically filled up above the door. And it was coming in through a closed window on the side of the house. We had water that came in through the ventilation." A neighbor's security video captured what appears to be a white SUV pulling into the curb then hitting the hydrant. Water begins gushing, and the SUV takes off.  Police officers took the neighbor's security video from the scene and were looking for more footage of the incident. 1015

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release. According to police, the bicyclist appeared to have a broken ankle as a result of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 619-667-1400. 906

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Facebook post has hundreds of thousands of interactions after a woman shared a photo of a young barista who refused to serve her because she wasn't wearing a mask.The woman's post was captioned, "Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption."Many people are supporting Lenin, with people commenting saying things like “there’s no reason to publicly shame a kid who’s trying to work his shift like any other day.” Another saying “they are following what they're told. I understand your frustration But it's being at aimed at the wrong people." Someone else said, “if you cannot wear a mask, why not go through the drive through?"RELATED: California requiring face coverings for most indoor areasIn San Diego County, everyone is required to wear a mask while in public, however, there is a clause that says if a person has a health condition that prevents them from covering their face, they do not have to wear a mask.A spokesperson for the county said there is no official rule to enforce that policy and people with health problems are not required to have proof. The spokesperson also said it’s up to businesses to enforce county rules and advised anyone with health problems to avoid public places.Many people also commented on the post saying they want to give Lenin the barista a tip, so one man stepped in to help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - "81 percent of people get a mild form of this disease; I'm one of them," says Dr. Eileen Natuzzi. The Encinitas surgeon is still a bit weary after 16 days of self-quarantine from coronavirus symptoms. She retired in November after 25 years as an acute care surgeon but spends her time now in the Solomon Islands volunteering her services in undeserved communities. It was just over two weeks ago when she felt her symptoms coming on. "When I was returning from the Solomon Islands, I started to experience some chills, a little bit of a fever, and just a slight cough," says Dr. Natuzzi. She flew home a day early and got progressively sicker, with nausea, and intestinal issues. She spoke with a friend who's an infectious disease specialist and two ER doctors. "They said, 'Well, it sounds like you have it, but you're probably not sick enough to be tested at this point in time.'"Dr. Natuzzi was never able to get the test. But as of this week, she's back on her feet and recovering. When she's healthy enough, she'll answer Governor Newsom's call for retired health care workers to return to the job in the fight against coronavirus. For now, she's helping some friends in Hollywood with their cause. "So, please, please, please, donate as much or as little as you can. Everything helps," says actress Alicia Silverstone on her Instagram video.Dr. Natuzzi's and Silverstone have been trying to drum up support for donations to a GoFundMe page created by fellow actor Edward Norton. It's already raised close to 5-million dollars to get critical supplies to medical professionals. "To donate money, to cover the cost of moving PPE supplies to locations that need it," says Dr. Natuzzi. Places like New York, where supplies are desperately low. Dr. Natuzzi has a family member who works in one of those New York hospitals where mask supplies are so short; they use the same one all day. "Here we have probably more of a broadly spread disease, and we have folks reusing masks that shouldn't be reused," says Dr. Natuzzi. 2051
