SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of San Diego's most historic neighborhoods will be on full display this weekend.The Barrio Logan Art Crawl hits the historic neighborhood on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. The free art crawl takes place every second Saturday of the month throughout the year from Main St. to Julian Ave.Attendees can check out Barrio Logan's galleries displaying works from local artists, breweries and restaurants throughout the neighborhood, murals, live music, and more.The event provides a way to highlight Barrio Logan's Chicano artistry and culture, from Chicano Park to the area's vibrant businesses and art."We just want people to come out and enjoy the importance of art and everything that happens here in Barrio Logan, from coming to the eateries to the breweries to the galleries we have here," Chris Zertuche, one of the event's organizers, says."Chicano Park is the heart of the neighborhood and they're the ones who provided a platform for us to have an art district here," Zertuche adds. 1014

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with two of Southern California's largest schools districts have announced closures effective Monday, March 16, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.The Los Angeles Unified School District and the San Diego Unified School District said Friday that campuses are expected to reopen April 6.RELATED COVERAGE: What's been canceled, postponed in San Diego, nationally due to coronavirusThe closures will keep a combined 750,000 students off campus for three weeks heading into spring break. LAUSD and SDUSD join numerous other school systems taking similar measures as the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise.Superintendent Austin Beutner of Los Angeles and Superintendent Cindy Marten of San Diego have issued the following joint statement: “California has now entered a critical new phase in the fight to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic,” they said. “There is evidence the virus is already present in the communities we serve, and our efforts now must be aimed at preventing its spread. We believe closing the state’s two largest school districts will make an important contribution to this effort. For that reason, we plan to close, effective Monday, March 16. “Later today, we will be providing students, parents and staff with more information on our plans to continue providing learning opportunities for students during the closure. We have also directed staff at both districts to prepare to continue providing nutrition and other supports through family resource facilities.” The boards of Los Angeles Unified and San Diego Unified School Districts have unanimously approved this action. San Diego Unified plans to reopen schools on April 6th, unless conditions call for an extension. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New technology could provide law enforcement and fire departments with round the clock security, infrared and night vision, according to Ron Lee, President of Tactical Drone Solutions.He explained the Hoverfly is as easy to operate as an elevator, with a launchpad that includes a handful of buttons and a joystick. The tethered drone doesn't require an FAA certificate, unlike untethered drones, Lee said.The tether is virtually invisible, three millimeters wide, but don't let that fool you. It is reinforced with Kevlar, a material most commonly associated with bullet-proof vests. The tiny chord serves two purposes, to provide power and send back information. "There's no wireless transmission, no way anyone can intercept it and there's no one who can take control of the drone," Lee said that makes it very appealing to agencies like police and Customs and Border Protection. The Hoverfly already made an appearance at the Holiday Bowl Parade, helping Harbor and San Diego Police oversee the crowd."It has a topography of five million square feet that you can see on the screen," Lee said. The drone uses GPS to center itself over the platform and can go straight up 200 feet in the air."You can put cameras on it, communications payloads, you can put a lighting system on it, if you need to illuminate a certain area," Lee said it's able to fly potentially weeks at a time.The infrared or night-vision essential for agencies to locate people in fires, or after a crime. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police are looking for the person suspected of using an incendiary device to intentionally start a fire at a San Diego police substation in Logan Heights.At around 11:15 p.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of a fire in the rear parking lot of the Central Division substation in the 2500 block of Commercial Street.Responding firefighters put out the fire before it caused serious damage. No injuries were reported.The Metro Arson Strike Team was called in to investigate the incident after it was determined the fire was sparked by some sort of explosive.Police are viewing trolley security camera footage as part of their search for the suspected arsonist responsible for the blaze. 717

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 70 non-profit groups and organizations teamed up and collected supplies for the thousands of migrants that arrived in Tijuana after leaving Central America.  Many are looking to enter the United States.Enrique Morones, the founder of Border Angels, say dozens of people will meet in San Diego Sat 10:!5 a.m. Saturday. They expect to pack 15 to 20 vehicles with much-needed supplies and bring them to Tijuana.  Morones calls it the ‘Caravan of Love.’Morones says atlas 30 groups will be represented when they make the delivery, which consists of non-perishable food, sleeping bags, toiletries, and more.“Just imagine if your house was on fire and you have to run out, and you have to live in the street, what would you need? It’s those same types of things because these people are escaping a very difficult situation in their home country… so they had to flee, they didn't have a lot of time to take things with them,” Morons said.Morones says doctors from UCLA and UCI will also be joining their Caravan of Love to give health exams to the migrants and families.“We wanna treat these people with kindness and love,” he said. 1172
