Becky Ianni is still haunted by years of sexual abuse that happened at the hands of her priest when she was a young child."I had buried my head, because he told me I'd go to Hell if I told on him," Ianni said about the priest. They're the ones who can independently investigate it."The Vatican has argued legal systems in different countries make a universal reporting law impossible, and that imposing one could endanger the church in places where Catholics are a persecuted minority.After decades of sexual abuse scandals, critics point out there is no punishment for priensts and none who choose not to report cases of abuse.Jeff Anderson, an attorney for other victims of church sex abuse cases, calls the new law ineffective."They have demonstrated for over three decades they are incapable of handling this issue themselves and they do not want outsiders in the closed clerical culture," Anderson said. John Bel Edwards will narrowly win reelection, beating out Republican challenger Eddie Rispone, CNN projected Saturday night.Edwards will claim victory in a deep red state President Donald Trump won by 20 percentage points in 2016, and against a businessman who closely aligned himself with the President. Trump held two rallies in Louisiana over the past 10 days, but the attempt at a last-minute boost was not enough to carry Rispone over the finish line.Last month, Edwards was forced into a runoff election after falling short of the majority vote needed to clinch reelection. He was the top vote getter (47%) in the jungle primary in which all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, ran against each other. Rispone got 27% of the vote, Republican Ralph Abraham got 24%, and Republican Patrick Landry got 1%.Edwards, 53, is the only statewide elected Democrat in Louisiana. He has accomplished the national Democratic priority of expanding Medicaid, but has been far to the right of his party on some social issues -- including abortion rights and gun control. BOULDER, Colo. — Employees at the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management facility have seen quite a few changes over the years.The facility acts as a collection for the hazardous materials people use in their households. The center collects, separates and then safely disposes of chemicals, batteries and other items that are too dangerous to simply throw away.“Cleaning products, garden products, pool and spa chemicals, things like that,” program manager Shelly Fuller said.The list of items the facility accepts is quite long.“Latex paint, any cleaning products from your home, fluorescent lightbulbs — a lot of times you’ll have the four-footers or even the curly cues that are CFLs, so they all contain mercury,” Fuller said. "Pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides, fungicides, oil and antifreeze.”Fuller has been working at the facility for about six years and has been working with hazardous waste management for about 10 years.She said she’s seen some interesting items pass through the facility over the years.“We had some breast implants come in because of the silicon and formaldehyde they were in. We had snakes that someone had picked up off of the side of the road and wanted to keep as a specimen. Last year we got a jar of teeth,” Fuller said.Lately, though, employees at the facility have been dealing with a new challenge — vape products have been coming in by the pound.“In the last couple months, we’ve received about five pounds of e-liquid.
