SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody after his 53-year-old mother was found dead Monday evening in the College West neighborhood. Officers were called to the 4800 block of Collwood Boulevard around 4:40 p.m. Monday night after receiving reports of a deceased person inside a home. According to San Diego Police, family members tried to contact the 53-year-old woman who lived inside, but had not been able to contact her for several days.When officers entered the home, they found the woman dead.“Information provided by family members led to the 25 year-old son being located at an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained to his hands,” police said.The man has been taken into custody and will be transported to headquarters for processing as a possible suspect, police said. 846

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The University of San Diego has the best university in the state for business, management and marketing degrees according to rankings released today by college decision-making website College Factual.USD's business, management and marketing department topped UC Berkeley, University of Southern California, University of San Francisco and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo among California schools. College Factual deemed USD's School of Business the eighth-best in the country as well."These rankings highlight the outstanding learning environment including small classes, cutting-edge curriculum and opportunities for international study that position our undergraduates for success in the business world," said Stephen Conroy, the School of Business' associate dean for undergraduate business programs.College Factual ranked the schools based on students' post-graduation earnings, the schools' accreditation and the number of students at each school majoring in a program related to business, management or marketing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A brazen package theft — and attempt to stop it — was caught on surveillance video at a Pacific Beach home.Penny Ryan wasn't home when the scene on her porch unfolded, but it was all captured on her doorbell camera. A man walked up to the residence with a small green skateboard and bag before he lays down the board and walks up onto the porch. The man then begins stuffing his bag with packages left on the doorstep.But before he gets away, a concerned nearby resident comes across the man as he's leaving and tells him to put the bag down multiple times.MAP: Track crime in San Diego County neighborhoodsThe thief appears to be willing to put the bag down, telling the resident, "I'll put it down, sir. Sir, I'll put it down." But instead, the man runs away.Ryan said the incident highlights a rise in crime within Pacific Beach, and residents are worried. A look at CrimeMapping.com shows there have been about 30 thefts and burglaries in the Pacific Beach area in the past six months."It has escalated so much in the last 3 years that we are all quite worried about how bad it’s going to get," Ryan said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Warning that the change would pose serious threats to public health and safety, the San Diego County Police Chiefs' and Sheriff's Association Monday announced its opposition to a state bill that proposes extending California's daily alcohol sales cutoff time from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy, vice president of the law enforcement group, asserted that Senate Bill 58 -- which calls for allowing bars in 10 cities throughout the state to keep serving drinks for an extra two hours a day as part of a pilot project -- would have negative effects on communities ``that are within driving distance of the cities where the bars (would) stay open later.''``Extending alcohol sales means more drunk drivers during early-morning commutes, more DUI crashes, more injuries and more deaths,'' Kennedy said, adding that the change would ``impact our ability to respond quickly to other emergencies.''Under SB 58, bars in Cathedral City, Coachella, Fresno, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Palm Springs, Sacramento, San Francisco and West Hollywood would be cleared to remain open two hours longer each night.The change would affect more than three-quarters of the state's population, according to a letter sent from the police association to the author of the bill, Sen. Scott Weiner, D-San Francisco.Weiner introduced the proposed legislation in December, three months after outgoing Gov.
