XIANGNING, Shanxi, April 5 (Xinhua) –- Nine miners trapped under the flooded Wangjialing coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province were taken out of the shaft Monday morning miraculously to safety, after 179 hours underground.The survivors were immediately sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their blood pressure and heart rates remained normal after having being trapped in the shaft for one week.One of the survivors, named Li Guoyu, 38, had a lucid mind and told doctors that he comes from central China's Henan Province. NANPING, Fujian, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Four of the five injured school children in a stabbing attack in southeast China's Fujian Province Tuesday, which left eight dead, became conscious Thursday, local authorities said.The four were in a relatively stable condition but still faced uncertainties and were all under intensive care, said Liu Bin, an official with the health bureau of Nanping City, where the bloodshed occurred.Zheng Minsheng, a former community doctor in the city, stabbed 13 children at the entrance of a primary school Tuesday morning in Nanping when crowds of students were arriving, leaving eight dead and five injured.One senior doctor and several chest surgeons arrived in Nanping from Beijing Wednesday to treat the children.The Procuratorate of Yanping District in Nanping City approved the arrest of Zheng Wednesday afternoon, on charges of intentional homicide, said Ye Xianjin, director of the Yanping District procuratorate office Wednesday.Zheng committed the attacks as he felt frustrated after breaking up with his girlfriend last year. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) has set up more than 60,000 new grassroots party organizations nationwide while rectifying some 50,000 slack branches during an 18-month campaign to boost party building.The campaign of studying and implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development, launched in September 2008, has covered all the 75 million Party members in more than 370 branches across the country.The Scientific Outlook on Development, set forth by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Hu Jintao in 2003, emphasizes the well-being of the people and a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable approach to development.Statistics show that during the campaign, more than 1.4 million items of outdated bylaws were abolished in units and departments nationwide. In addition, some 2.1 million new ones were issued and 2.5 million were amended. The bylaws cleanup covered science and technology development, environmental protection, people's livelihood, anti-corruption among other aspects.In the non-public sector, 12,000 new CPC branches were set up during the campaign, and another 24,000 are in the pipeline. BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) of the non-manufacturing sector rose to 58.4 percent in March, a rebound of12 percentage points from February, when the index fell below the boom-bust line of 50 percent for the first time since a year earlier, an industrial association said Saturday.The PMI, designed to provide a real-time snapshot of business conditions, includes a package of indices including new orders, inventory levels, production and others that measure economic performance. A reading of above 50 percent suggests expansion, while one below 50 percent indicates contraction.The rise of the index indicated robust market activities in service sectors, which combined with an optimistic outlook that would encourage private investment and promote healthy and coordinated development of national economy, said the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) vice president Cai Jin.According to the CFLP survey, the new order sub-index for China's non-manufacturing sector climbed to 54.6 percent last month, up 8.4 percentage points than February. The outlook sub-index was 70.4 percent, up 2.4 percentage points.The CFLP survey covers 20 non-manufacturing industries, including logistics, wholesale, hospitality, supermarkets and construction.The PMI for manufacturing sectors rose to 55.1 percent in March, the 13th straight month that the index was above 50 percent.
