SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s a win-win situation: a sale on airfares out of San Diego, with an ultimate destination of Hawaii. Southwest Airlines opened its flight schedule Wednesday for once-daily service out of San Diego. The flights travel to Kahului, Maui, starting Apr. 14, 2020. Flights to Honolulu begin Apr. 20, 2020, Southwest reports. Fares as low as 9 each way will be available on both routes for travel between Apr. 14 and June 4, 2020, according to the airline. The tickets must be purchased Oct. 30. "We're grateful for the steadfast loyalty of our San Diego Customers and we're adding a Southwest heading to their compass of nonstop options," said Andrew Watterson, Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer for Southwest Airlines. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local and federal authorities raided four San Diego County homes Wednesday as part of a money laundering investigation.Agents served one of those warrants at an El Cajon home at about 7 a.m., according to neighbors. Agents could be seen removing several items from the property. 10News observed agents searching through the first and second floors of the home. Neighbors told 10News agents made requests over a speaker for the home's residents to exit the property. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Memorial Day Weekend DUI arrests are down in San Diego County compared to last year, according to California Highway Patrol. In San Diego County, 42 people were arrested between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Sunday. By this time on Memorial Day Weekend in 2018, 57 people were arrested. One person died this weekend in San Diego County due to a DUI crash, tying it with last year. Statewide, 741 people have so far been arrested for driving under the influence. By this time last year, 674 people were arrested for DUI. So far this weekend, DUI-related crashes have claimed 18 lives throughout the state compared with 14 by this time last year. 668

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local research organizations and San Diego County are teaming with the CDC to expand the genome sequencing of COVID-19. That data gives county leaders important information to drive decision-making to help slow and control the spread of the virus.“The virus is constantly evolving and trying to figure out the best way to spread through our population. And is it does that, it changes a little bit,” said Dr. Louise Laurent a professor at UC San Diego, which is part of the team, along with Scripps Research.Laurent says that studying changes in the virus can help identify which cases are connected to each other and which are not. The county can use that information to understand what measures are working, where there are significant outbreaks, and whether new measures are needed to stop those outbreaks.The county’s top epidemiologist, Dr. Eric McDonald, tells ABC 10News that the data shows that through testing and contract tracing, efforts to control outbreaks have generally been effective. “It looks like many of the instances of individuals who are infected don’t result in too many other infections. We don’t have lots of big clusters of the same exact strain,” McDonald said.The data also shows that while the restrictions and actions taken by the county have been effective in controlling outbreaks, COVID-19 continues to spread in San Diego through travel. “What we found is that San Diego has been hit many different times and viruses from other places have come to San Diego,” Laurent said. “We don’t want to be an isolated place. We want to interact, right? We’re just that kind of place. It makes us vibrant. It makes us an interesting place to be.
