SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is now able to test for novel coronavirus without needing to send samples to the CDC, the Health and Human Services Agency announced Thursday. The County Public Health Lab can now run up to 40 tests at once. The lab is one of dozens certified by the CDC throughout the U.S. “This is great news for San Diego County and will help with our ongoing efforts to contain COVID-19,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Being able to test locally means that when we have patients under investigation, we can more rapidly remove unneeded restrictions from those without infection. Results for potential cases of COVID-19 will now be available within 24 to 48 hours, health officials say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County leaders announced Tuesday that churches will be allowed to reopen Wednesday if they have a plan posted and follow newly-released state guidelines. The county said San Diego County's Public Health Officer does not have to approve the plans. "We know that practicing and sharing your faith is important, but we want to make sure we keep everyone safe," said Greg Cox, San Diego County Supervisor.The news follows a state announcement Monday that churches will be allowed to reopen with certain restrictions. Arthur Hodges, the senior pastor at South Bay United Pentecostal Church, is still in a legal battle with the state over restrictions. He said the state's stay-at-home order and restrictions violate religious right and discriminate against houses of worship."This church behind me seats over 600 people," said Hodges. "I could probably come back with a 30 to 50 percent capacity."After being denied in federal court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Hodges is taking his fight to the Supreme Court, for one main reason."We've got to prevent this from happening in the future," he said. "We need those limits established now that government is not encroaching on our religious rights."His church plans to resume in-person service on Sunday."We are not putting any pressure on anyone to come to church until they want to come, ready to come, comfortable in coming," he explained.Churches will be allowed to reopen beginning midnight Wednesday, according to the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County’s public health officer said a Pacific Beach gym ordered to close last week has been linked to a community COVID-19 outbreak.The Gym, located at 2949 Garnett Ave., was ordered to close on July 23 for violating public health orders, according to a document from the county.County Public Health officer Wilma Wooten said the county discovered the outbreak on Tuesday. Wooten couldn’t offer any further details. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents in one San Diego neighborhood have grown increasingly worried over reports of large boulders being left in the streets - in some cases, on top of vehicles.Golden Hill residents have reported the boulders appearing at 19th and Broadway, 26th and Broadway, Date Street, and the Golden Pacific Complex.At times, some of the boulders have been covered with cardboard or blankets."It's way too easy, with the way they're positioned, for someone to jump in their car like they do every day and take off and end up running over a giant boulder," said Benn Bruff.Bruff says a 25-pound boulder was placed in the wheel well of his girlfriend's car. Luckily they spotted it before she drove away. San Diego Police tell 10News the issue is very concerning. They are looking for more information and any description of the person responsible. Police says the person could face vandalism charges or obstruction of a roadway.
