INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis woman wants to know who tortured and killed her dog with a screwdriver. "She was like my daughter. I've had the dog for 10 years," said Lorrie Snowden, dog's owner.Snowden came home from the store on Wednesday afternoon to find Petta lying outside her door, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. "While I was gone, somebody broke into my house and attacked my dog, and then took my dog and attacked her somewhere else," said Snowden.The cockapoo was stabbed as many as 15 times. Somehow Petta found her way home."She had to crawl back and let her owner know something was wrong," said Snowden.She took Petta to an emergency vet clinic, but there was nothing they could do."They had to put her down. (WRTV) -- A woman who comforted a college student during her last moments after being struck by a school bus Monday hopes her family knows everyone did all they could for her.Fatima Hassuneh, 18, was crossing the street at the intersection of University Boulevard and New York Street on the Indiana University, Purdue University of Indianapolis campus around 1:30 p.m. Monday when a bus attempting to make a left-hand turn struck her.School officials said the bus was under contract with Indianapolis Public Schools, but owned by Durham Transportation. Witnesses and college officials say Hassuneh had the right of way.PREVIOUS | IUPUI?student struck, killed by school busHassuneh was a pre-med student who aspired to become a doctor, according to a post by the college's Muslim Student Association. “Fatima, an aspiring doctor, was a sophomore in biology and was known for her kind heart and sense of humor,” the Muslim Student Association wrote. “She was a gift among us and has returned to her Lord. She was very active in our community and would often lead interfaith events. May Allah allow her to continue to reap the benefits of those deeds.”At the time of the crash, Alysa Schultz and her boyfriend were sitting at a red light at the very same intersection. She told WRTV that as soon as she saw what happened, her boyfriend started calling 911 while she rushed to check on Hassuneh.“As I was kind of kneeling there next to her, all she was doing was just holding her hand out, so I just grabbed it and held onto it,” Schultz said. “People were getting mad, saying, ‘Don’t touch her. Don’t move her.’ But at the same time, that one little bit of humanity – just hold on to her hand – that’s probably all she wanted.”Schultz said she didn’t know Hassuneh – but that her friends and classmates have messaged her since telling her what a wonderful person she was.“I had a lot of people message me on Facebook saying how awesome of a person she was and how beautiful and smart and driven and how involved she was,” Schultz said. “I really wish I would have known her.”Schultz, a former Indiana University student herself, said she hopes Hassuneh’s family can take some comfort from all of the efforts made to save her.“I hope that her family knows that there were six people calling the police, four people running around the corner to grab any police who were nearby,” Shultz said. “Everybody was stopping and blocking off the road so that no one could come near the situation. Everyone at IUPUI was like a family doing everything they possibly could for her, and I really hope that’s comforting to the family.”An Islamic funeral prayer, a janaza, was planned for Tuesday night for Hassuneh at the Alhuda Foundation in Fishers. It's been a brutal week for many big American retailers.JCPenney announced Friday that it will cut 360 jobs at its stores and corporate headquarters. That's on top of the more than 5,000 layoffs in 2017 after JCPenney decided to close nearly 140 stores.The struggling retailer also said that its earnings and sales for this year will be worse than what Wall Street analysts were expecting. Shares of JCPenney plunged nearly 10% in early trading.JCPenney wasn't the only prominent bricks and mortar chain to report poor results this week.Barnes & Noble posted a quarterly loss and a drop in sales Thursday morning, sending the bookstore's shares to an all-time low.Victoria apparently needs a new Secret too. L Brands, the owner of the lingerie seller and Bath & Body Works, plunged 14% Thursday after its outlook turned out to be more devilish than angelic.Nordstrom, which is trying to go private, failed to impress investors with its latest results after the closing bell Thursday. Its stock fell 6% Friday morning.And the other shoe dropped at Foot Locker. The sneaker and athletic apparel company's sales missed forecasts and its outlook was weak as well. Its stock is also up more than 25% this year and is near a record high.Coye Nokes, partner in the consumer and retail practice at strategy consulting firm OC&C, said that the threat from Amazon is clearly the biggest challenge for most traditional retailers."Amazon is still coming and it is entering even more categories," she said.But she added that there are some retailers that have been fighting back and have done a good job of boosting their own digital operations.Related: Macy's is back! The Gap's Old Navy brand is on fire. Its same-store sales were up 9% during the holiday quarter.Department store chain Dillard's topped forecasts earlier this week too, sending its shares up nearly 17% on the news.So it's not all doom and gloom for retail. The industry is in the midst of a shakeout that will lead to some casualties and some big winners.
