And service is a big part of the job for Bishop Donnie McGriff. “It’s not a job it’s not a profession. It’s a ministry. And that’s what I do. I love it,” says Bishop McGriff.And serve the Bishop has for nearly 60 years, starting right out of high school in the Navy. He served his community as a UPS driver. And for over 30 years, he has served in what he calls his ultimate role as the leader of his church. They collect food for the less fortunate. He even founded a Christian based University focusing on Theology and Entrepreneurship. But the military has always been very close to Bishop McGriff’s heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego officials plan to expand and speed up an audit of water billing issues, after admitting more than 300 residents were incorrectly overcharged last year.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, joined by City Councilmembers Chris Cate and Lorie Zapf, City Auditor Eduardo Luna, and Public Utilities Department (PUD) Director Vic Bianes, said the audit will help find any possible inaccuracies and suggest any needed changes."San Diegans need to be able to trust that their bills are correct, that the new technology we are implementing is working properly, and that every cent they pay goes to making sure we have safe, reliable water," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 634 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest number of new cases reported over one day thus far.The new cases were out of 9,224 tests reported to the county on Friday — a 7% positive result — and bring the region's COVID-19 case total to 22,489 cases.County health leaders also reported seven more deaths due to the virus on Friday. The victims died between July 7 and July 15 and include three women and four men, whose ages ranged from early 50s to mid-90s. All had existing chronic conditions. The county's death toll is now at 472 deaths.Two new community setting outbreaks were also reported, both traced to restaurants, the county says. The county does not name the businesses that community outbreaks are traced to, officials have previously said. In the past week, there have been 13 community outbreaks — nearly double the county's trigger of seven outbreaks in seven days.RELATED: Gov. San Diego's case rate trigger is greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days, while the trigger for investigations is 70% or less within 24 hours of notification over seven days.The county is also still well above the state's case rate threshold of no more than 100 cases per 100,000 people, or more than 25 cases per 100,000 people and higher than 8% positivity.The new numbers come as California announces that counties that are on the state's watch list for 14 consecutive days will not be allowed to reopen for in-person school in the fall. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Friday the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in East Village.Gary Cushinberry, 51, dragged the woman into some bushes near 13th Street and Island Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on November 5, police said. After the assault, Cushinberry ran west toward Island Avenue, police said.The woman had been walking alone to her car when she was attacked.The San Diego Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit released a composite sketch of the suspect the following day. Through tips and leads, investigators identified Cushinberry as the suspect.Police found Cushinberry Friday morning in the 200 block of 17th Street. He was arrested on several sex assault charges and taken to San Diego County Central Jail.Officers also confirmed that Cushinberry had an outstanding warrant for theft in Allen County, Indiana.Police are asking anyone with information to call the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego firefighters came to the rescue of a Mountain View family after they lost their home to a fire the day after Christmas.The fire left seven people displaced after tearing through the home just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Teak Street near Ocean View Boulevard. The fire burned through one of two homes on the lot and the family says they had to pull bars off the window to escape the fire, leaving four people injured.While crews responded and were able to get the fire quickly under control, the family lost everything — including Christmas presents that two little girls who lived in the burned home had unwrapped just one day earlier.That's when San Diego Fire-Rescue stepped in. Sunday, firefighters from Stations 12 and 19 delivered gift cards, toys, and clothing to help the family through their loss. "The gifts were courtesy of the San Diego City Fire Fighters Local 145. The family was very appreciative of this wonderful surprise that illustrates the generous spirit of the holiday season," the department said on social media.The family has also started a GoFundMe to help with expenses due to the fire. 1149
