SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A brazen package theft — and attempt to stop it — was caught on surveillance video at a Pacific Beach home.Penny Ryan wasn't home when the scene on her porch unfolded, but it was all captured on her doorbell camera. A man walked up to the residence with a small green skateboard and bag before he lays down the board and walks up onto the porch. The man then begins stuffing his bag with packages left on the doorstep.But before he gets away, a concerned nearby resident comes across the man as he's leaving and tells him to put the bag down multiple times.MAP: Track crime in San Diego County neighborhoodsThe thief appears to be willing to put the bag down, telling the resident, "I'll put it down, sir. Sir, I'll put it down." But instead, the man runs away.Ryan said the incident highlights a rise in crime within Pacific Beach, and residents are worried. A look at CrimeMapping.com shows there have been about 30 thefts and burglaries in the Pacific Beach area in the past six months."It has escalated so much in the last 3 years that we are all quite worried about how bad it’s going to get," Ryan said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 20-year-old woman claims she was sexually assaulted for about 20 minutes during a Lyft ride in June.She's identified as Jane Roe in a civil lawsuit filed by Estey & Bomberger, LLP on Thursday. Roe tells 10News she has a disability and is unable to drive, she relies on Lyft to get to and from UCSD and around San Diego on a daily basis."I would use Lyft every day for about a year and a half," said Roe. "I would use it about 2-3 times a day."In June, Roe says she was using Lyft to travel from her father's home to her mother's, a 32-minute ride on the Interstate 5 that would forever change her life.RELATED: San Diego women reported in Uber, Lyft sex assault cases"He just asked me inappropriate questions," Roe said, referring to her driver. "He was commenting about inappropriate behaviors that he likes to do."Roe said the driver then told her to sit in the front passenger's seat, and out of fear she complied."The man.. he started touching me.. he groped my vagina, he groped my inner thighs, my thighs, my hamstrings," Roe said. She said the assault lasted between 15 and 20 minutes."I was kind of in a state of shock," Roe said. But Roe and her attorney, Mike Bomberger, say Lyft has been unresponsive."One of the things we don't know is what happened to the driver," Bomberger said.Roe and Bomberger allege that Lyft is not doing enough to keep passengers safe."Lyft fails to cooperate with police when there's an assault. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A bobcat severely injured in a Southern California wildfire is on the road to recovery thanks to the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife team.The female bobcat, believed to be 6-8 months old, was brought to the Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center on Oct. 13 after suffering severe burns in the El Dorado Fire in Yucaipa, San Bernardino County.An area resident out with her dogs saw the injured bobcat and notified authorities.According to the Humane Society, the cat’s ears and whiskers “were singed, consistent with fire exposure, and later confirmed that she was a victim of the El Dorado Fire.”Christine Barton, director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Ramona Wildlife Center, said, “Typically, encounters with dogs do not end well, but in this case, it probably saved her life. You could see that she was emaciated and clearly had singed whiskers and ears, but her full exam revealed the true extent of her injuries, which included burns to all four of her paws. We collaborate with CADFW (California Department of Fish and Wildlife) and a burn specialist with UC Davis on burn cases, and we all agreed that this little girl is a fighter and has a good chance of making a full recovery.”The Humane Society said the cat is healing well and could be returned to the wild next month. 1342

SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) - The office of District Attorney Summer Stephan will soon have a new tool to better document injuries to victims of domestic violence. Her office announced on Tuesday, May 7 that 35 cameras will be purchased to aid in investigations, thanks to a ,000 grant from a California Office of Emergency Services.According to Stephan, these cameras can produce high-quality photos, which will then assist how evidence is presented in court. "These cameras can help us preserve and document evidence -- including evidence of strangulation -- which is predictive of homicide, and allows us to move forward with prosecutions and fight this persistent crime in San Diego County," said Stephan.According to a recent crime report from the San Diego Association of Governments, in 2017 there were more than 17,000 domestic violence incidents reported in San Diego County. Stephan said there has been a 20% increase in the number of domestic violence cases submitted to the District Attorney's Office over the last five years. Plus, the District Attorney's Family Protection Division has 21 pending murder cases. 11 of those cases involve the murder of an intimate partner. In addition to the new cameras, Stephan's office is currently working on nine other initiatives to bring awareness to and combat domestic violence. These initiatives include a new countywide strangulation protocol, forensic exams, and recognizing the link between homelessness and domestic violence. 1508
