BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese officials targeted in the investigation of the massive blast that tore through Beirut sought to shift blame for the presence of explosives at the city’s port, and the visiting French president warned that without serious reforms the country would “continue to sink.” The blast, which appeared to have been caused by an accidental fire that ignited a warehouse full of ammonium nitrate at the city’s port, rippled across the Lebanese capital, killing at least 135 people, injuring more than 5,000 and causing widespread destruction. It also may have accelerated the country’s coronavirus outbreak, as thousands flooded into hospitals in the wake of the blast.French President Emmanuel Macron visited Thursday amid widespread pledges of international aid.Macron, who viewed the devastated port and was to meet with senior Lebanese officials, said the visit is “an opportunity to have a frank and challenging dialogue with the Lebanese political powers and institutions.”He said France will work to coordinate aid but warned that “if reforms are not made, Lebanon will continue to sink.”The head of Lebanon’s customs department meanwhile confirmed in an interview with LBC TV late Wednesday that officials had sent five or six letters over the years to the judiciary asking that the ammonium nitrate be removed because of the dangers it posed.But Badri Daher said all he could do was alert authorities to the presence of dangerous materials, saying even that was “extra work” for him and his predecessor. BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A City of Chula Vista spokesman said the city does not have any immediate plans to redevelop the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course despite a report that showed roughly 2,700 homes built on the Bonita-area course.“For anybody to want to take it away, it’s hurtful,” exclaimed Bonita resident Xochitl Rouston.A report called “Redevelopment of the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course” was shared on a Bonita Facebook group by a member who found the report online. The report outlines options to redevelop the area currently occupied by the course and parts of Rohr Park, which is in Chula Vista but borders Bonita.“Where are we going to take the kids?  Where are we going to go walking?  Where are we going to have our parties?” questioned Rouston who has lived in Bonita for more than 40 years.A Chula Vista spokesman told 10News the city completed a study in 2015 that said revenue at the course was declining and it wasn’t generating enough revenue to refurbish the course.  The report in question was issued so the city could “know what our options are should the golf course not be able to generate a return and pay for itself.” The spokesman emphasized the city is in the very early stages and there is no timeline for any projects.“We’re just trying to raise awareness, get everybody together,” said Rouston, who said they were surprised to learn any redevelopment was being considered.The Chula Vista spokesman said the Bonita residents would be notified of any discussions or meetings pertaining to the golf course or Rohr Park. 1594

Officers will now be required to wear badges that show a badge number instead. According to Mayor Byron Brown, the change was made about a week ago due to ongoing concerns for officer safety. They are diverse and consist of new voters who voted Donald Trump for the first time as well as former Republicans who switched to Joe Biden this election.“I think if we don’t discuss it, we can never heal,” Rosanna Gallagher, a Biden supporter, said as she hosted a socially distanced conversation on her back porch.Marty Paulson and Chris Halsey are two Trump supporters not afraid to share their thoughts.“I accept that Joe Biden will be president,” Paulson said disappointingly.Halsey is more reluctant.“Not until he concedes is the election over,” Halsey insisted to the group.“That doesn’t mean squat,” Richard Westermann, a Biden voter, said in response.Different SourcesOne thing you learn quickly when observing this group is their opinions are based on what they read.“I read everything I can,” Gallagher said.Gallagher, like the other Biden supporters here, trusts traditional news outlets like CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC.Paulson and Halsey feel differently.“You believe your source,” Paulson said.Paulson and Halsey tend to watch sources beyond the traditional channels on your cable provider.“I stopped watching Fox News 6-8 months ago,” Paulson said, commenting on the fact he doesn’t believe it's are conservative enough.Paulson and Halsey acknowledged they find themselves watching OANN, a far-right cable channel with the support of Trump, more often.COVID RESPONSEBecause the group has different sources, they obviously have different views of the world.“COVID is big on my mind,” Westermann said, commenting on what President-elect Biden needs to do first.Paulson and Halsey suggested how they differ.“If I get COVID, I would want to take hydroxychloroquine,” Halsey said about the treatment that the FDA stopped allowing doctors to prescribe outside of a clinical setting.“Do you believe in COVID?,” Gallagher asked Paulson sarcastically.“You going to shut down the entire economy for this,” Paulson said in response.“Nobody is saying that, this has never happened before,” Westermann said to Paulson, who he golfs with on a regular basis.TRANSITION AND ADVICE“I feel there is turmoil,” Gallagher said when asked about the current presidential transition.“We haven’t had peace all year,” Halsey said in response.“I don’t think there is turmoil going on,” Paulson said.But can Biden win over voters like Halsey and Paulson?“Is there anything he can do? Stop all this hatefulness,” Halsey said.The problem? BOCA RATON, Fla. — New developments in the investigation into a Boca Raton pet store where authorities say a dead puppy and several sick puppies were found late last year.The owner of Poochie Couture was arrested on Tuesday and is facing multiple animal cruelty charges.Marc Rosenbluth, 37, has since bonded out of jail.Last November, dozens of puppies were removed from Poochie Couture by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, and the pet store was shut down.Rosenbluth surrendered some of the dogs after Boca Raton Police and Animal Care and Control said they found a dead 3-month-old puppy, along with several other sick animals."Had we not gotten there with Boca P.D., most likely the death toll would have much higher," said Dianne Sauve, the director of Palm Beach County Animal Care and ControlSauve said closing the pet store is a victory.Records show that of the 58 dogs inside the shop, investigators found the dead puppy and six french bulldogs that were sick with multiple problems. Two of them needed intensive care.Rosenbluth's arrest report said Poochie Couture lacked prevention of injury and did not assist with ongoing veterinary care."It is a shame some animals had to die in a result of this," said Kelly Evans, who called police in November, claiming Rosenbluth and his wife were not taking care of their puppies. "I am glad he is arrested now and there is some justice for the animals."Sauve said ACC likes to tell people to always adopt and don't shop.
