EL PASO, Texas - A cathedral in El Paso was vandalized while the church was open and available for prayer Tuesday morning.The Diocese of El Paso says a suspect came into the sanctuary at St. Patrick Cathedral around 10 a.m. and destroyed an almost 90-year-old statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was located in the center behind the main altar.“I am in shock and we at the Cathedral are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation,” said The Rector of St. Patrick Cathedral, Fr. (KGTV) – The superintendent of an El Cajon senior living apartment complex says police told him they have arrested a suspect in a series of robberies that have taken place on the sidewalk in front of the building. The arrest comes less than 24 hours after a 10News story aired surveillance video showing two of the muggings outside the Salvation Army apartments on South Anza Street."I actually jumped up and down with excitement," said super Alex Harmon, describing his reaction to the news. He says the surveillance video was key evidence. Harmon says there have been at least five incidents between October 15 and December 24. In one instance, the thief and a possible accomplice are seen carefully observing resident, May Kanao, while passing her on the street. The thief then turned and followed Kanao around the corner. He attempted to rip the gold chain off her neck, coming away with the gold cross which had been attached. The thief is then seen running back down South Anza St. In the other incident, which took place in October, the thief is seen engaging a 97-year-old resident who uses a walker in conversation, convincing her to open her bag. EL CAJON (KGTV) – An El Cajon property owner said a police pursuit in March that ended at her property has led to questions over repairs.Jenny Wu has owned the property in the Villa Madera condominium complex on Mollison Avenue for more than a decade. On March 19, a vehicle crashed into her home, causing extensive damage.According to Wu, she had two elderly renters living there at the time of the crash, with one ending up in the hospital. She said she gave the information about what happened to her homeowner’s association immediately following the incident.More than five months after the crash, her property is still boarded up.Through her translator, she said the HOA wanted to investigate. Wu and her son said communication from the HOA and the property management company on the process to fix the condo has been spotty.Dan Zimberoff is an attorney who specializes in HOA matters.He is not involved in the case, but said the association typically insures common area.“When you have a singular affected homeowner like you do here, many times I see the association allows that homeowner have direct access with the adjuster. It just streamlines the processes and allows that direct communication,” Zimberoff said.Wu was one of the many temporarily laid off from her job at a local casino because of the pandemic. She still pays HOA fees at her condo, which adds up to roughly 0 per month.The president of Property Management Consultants said Team 10 has “been told many inconstancies [sic].” President Hugh Maynard said the insurance company would be contacting Team 10 with information, but the company never reached out.
