CHONGQING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Four miners are missing after a coal mine collapsed in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality Wednesday, local authorities said.Five miners were working underground when the coal bed at the Xiaowan Coal Mine collapsed at around 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zhonggang Town, Wuxi County.One miner was lifted to the ground unhurt.Rescuers are searching for the missing miners.

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. China is providing good services in this respect. ""The same thing could be said about the south. We need to concentrate on developing the south and China stands with us in this respect. It is a fruitful cooperation with great benefits," he said.Jailani, meanwhile, commended the strong ties between Khartoum and Beijing, saying that "this relation is deeply-rooted in history and I think what has been achieved now between the two countries is paving the way for a lasting peace in Sudan."The fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum will be held on May 13-14 in Tianjin, China. The meeting, with the theme of deepening comprehensive cooperation and realizing common development, would give impetus to the China-Arab friendship.The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was established in 2004.

CANBERRA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and Australian Minister for Defense John Faulkner have vowed to strengthen exchanges between the armed forces of China and Australia.China and Australia shared common interests and desire in ensuring the peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region, said a joint statement released by Guo and Faulkner Friday.The two sides hailed the development of their military-to-military relationship in recent years and said positive outcomes had been achieved through senior visits and exchanges in education, training and technical areas.Both sides agreed that strengthening open dialogue on defense and security issues between Australia and China was conducive to promoting bilateral relations.The statement said China and Australia were both pleased with the outcomes of the current visit and the opportunity it provided to further strengthen bilateral ties and military exchanges.The Sino-Australia defense relationship was an important part of bilateral ties and both sides would work concertedly to sustain sound and stable development in this regard, it said.Both countries should respect and take into full consideration each other's core interests and major concerns, and develop ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, the statement said. BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- China's parliament on Thursday adopted the Law on Guarding State Secrets and the amended State Compensation Law at the closing session.Wu Bangguo，chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress, or the top legislature, presided over the closing of the four-day bimonthly session.Wu said, the amendment to the State Compensation Law will regulate the use of public power, protect legitimate rights and interests of citizens, legal persons and social organizations. The 14th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) concludes in Beijing, capital of China, on April 29, 2010. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the concluding meeting.Wu said, the Law on Guarding State Secrets has made clear legal liability in guarding state secrets, which will help safeguard the state security and interests.The legislature also reviewed the report on migrant workers which stressed protecting the rights and interests of this group and improving social services for them.
