(KGTV) - For the third year in a row, babies were born too soon, a sign that the health of mothers and infants is worsening, according to March of Dimes.The statistics recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed the preterm birth rates rose to 9.93 percent in 2017, up from 9.86 in 2016.The rate marks the third consecutive increase after seven years of decline, according to the CDC. (KGTV) — For Chula Vista native Cesar Moreno, instinct — and training — kicked in when a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Anchorage, Alaska, Friday."I went straight under my desk and I was just praying," Moreno recalled. "I was afraid I was going to die."Moreno said training for earthquakes while living in San Diego as a child helped prepare him for what to do. The breakthrough comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects IVF to reach an all-time high in the coming years. 10News is digging into the history and future of IVF by the numbers, as well as cases when human error reportedly caused mistakes with IVF. The first baby conceived with IVF was born into the world in 1978, according to the CDC. Since then, numbers have spiked. The agency says by 2015, eight million babies had been conceived using IVF. (KGTV) - Authorities in Northern California have issued an arrest warrant for a former Southwestern College football player after he failed to appear in court in a sexual assault case.The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said 25-year-old Raul Sierra failed to show up for two hearings, including one on March 7.The former Southwestern College and Humboldt State University student-athlete was arrested in 2016 for a sexual assault that officials say occurred in a campus residence hall at HSU in 2015.Sierra was charged originally with acquaintance rape “by use of drugs” in 2016 after taking a plea bargain. However, subsequent court records show that Sierra pleaded no contest to lesser charges of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor assault in 2016.Court records show that Sierra is supposed to serve community service and undergo counseling through a court program.Sierra attended Castle Park High school before playing at Southwestern College and walking-on at Humboldt State University. 1031
