(KGTV) - A SpaceX Falcon 9 unmanned rocket will launch from Florida Wednesday afternoon with a planet-searching satellite on board for NASA.The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is part of a mission to find exoplanets that periodically block part of the light from their host stars, events called transits, NASA said.TESS will survey the nearest and brightest stars for two years to search for transiting exoplanets, according to scientists. NASA’s satellite will look for stars 30 to 100 times brighter than those observed by the Kepler satellite launched in 2009.TESS also will scan a larger area than Kepler, NASA officials said. It will spend about a month at a time focusing on one portion of sky, eventually covering the entire sky. (KGTV) - A destructive fire which caused .5 million in damage to the Off Road Warehouse in Kearny Mesa was arson, federal investigators announced Friday. Flames destroyed the business and 12,700-square-foot building at 7915 Balboa Ave. on March 28. San Diego Fire-Rescue investigators requested help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the origin of the fire. The fire is now an ongoing criminal investigation, the ATF said. (CNN) -- Maui residents who evacuated their homes because of a wildfire are allowed to return, the County of Maui announced Friday on Facebook.But Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino cautioned that, "This fire is still an active threat to our community, and residents are urged to remain vigilant of changing conditions," in the same post.Firefighters will continue to monitor the blaze that has consumed an estimated 10,000 acres of fallow former sugar cane and dry brush, according the county.The fire was reported Thursday morning at 10:42 a.m. local time near the intersection of Waiko Road and Kuihelani Highway.The County of Maui activated its Emergency Operations Center in the morning. By afternoon, the flames were burning out of control and emergency officials sent a mobile alert warning nearby residents to evacuate.More than 600 people fled as the blaze scorched 3,000 acres, the mayor's office said. The Maui Humane Society moved its animals in crates and kennels to a nearby high school.Helicopters were grounded after sunset, and they are expected to return to making air drops after sunrise, according to a news release from the county.Oprah Winfrey has a home in the county, and tweeted a local resident to confirm that she's given officials fighting the fire access to her private road. "A big mahalo to Oprah for giving Maui County access to your private road for use to assist in the Maui fire," Hawaii Gov. (KGTV) - A man identified as the son of San Diego convicted sex offender Matthew Hedge was arrested on child molestation charges Wednesday. 34-year-old Shaun Crocker, born as Shaun Hedge, is suspected of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department."Crocker knew the 13-year-old victim and at this time no other victims have come forward," officials said.He is being held on million bail and is due in court Thursday.Crocker has a history of at least 15 criminal arrests in San Diego and Texas dating back to 2003. None of the accusations were linked to sexual conduct; Crocker was arrested on suspicion of fraud, burglary, and taking a vehicle for a joyride, among other reported crimes. The alleged victim's mother said Crocker is Matthew Hedge's son.Matthew Hedge was convicted in 1989 of molesting two girls and two boys in San Diego. He was treated at a state hospital and released to San Diego County in 2005. Hedge was originally placed on the grounds of Donovan State Prison in Otay Mesa but returned to the hospital less than a year later after admitting he spoke to girls and had a deviant fantasy about a child. After his second release, restrictions on where Matthew Hedge was allowed to live were lifted and he moved to a downtown residential hotel with his wife. 1343
