ASTANA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Defense ministers of China and Kazakhstan agreed Friday to upgrade cooperation of the two militaries to a new level.At a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov, visiting Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie recalled the smooth growth of the bilateral cooperative relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Kazakhstan, including frequent top-level exchanges, deepening of political trust, and expansion of cooperation in all aspects.He recalled frequent meetings between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The two leaders held in-depth discussions on how to further bilateral strategic partnership, thus continuously adding new momentum and providing guidance to the development of bilateral ties.Liang said military-to-military relationship is a key part of overall bilateral relations. Supported by leaders of both nations, relations between the two militaries have been growing steadily while leaders of both militaries have maintained frequent contacts on bilateral and multilateral occasions. Exchange and cooperation between the two militaries are being strengthened across the board.Liang expressed the hope to increase contacts and deepen cooperation with the Kazakh side, so as to upgrade the relationship between the two militaries to a new level.Dzhaksybekov agreed. He noted that the two countries have maintained a high-level of mutual trust and frequent contacts between their leaders. The two nations also have same or similar views on many regional and global issues, and have maintained mutual support and close coordination in addressing those issues.He said developing relations with China, a friendly neighbor, is a top priority of Kazakhstan's foreign policy. UNITED NATIONS, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from UN Security Council members and other countries on Wednesday sent their deep condolences to the Chinese government and people for a strong earthquake that hit the northwestern part of the country and killed at least 589 people.The diplomats from nearly 40 countries and the European Union offered their condolences to China when they were taking the floor at an open Council debate on the situation in the Middle East, which kicked off here Wednesday morning. The representatives were from the only countries which inscribed to speak at the open debate.Representatives from Austria, Bosnia, Brazil, Britain, France, Gabon, Japan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Russia and the United States offered their condolences to the Chinese delegation for the 7.1-magnitude earthquake, which struck northwest China's Qinghai Province early Wednesday.Condolences were also from such countries as Afghanistan, Argentina, Botswana, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Kenya, Kuwait, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia and Venezuela.Earlier, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and president of the UN General Assembly Ali Treki also sent their deep condolences to China over the strong earthquake.At least 589 people have reportedly died and 10,000 others were injured in the wake of the deadly earthquake, local authorities said.

BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top economic planner, refuted a report on Friday claiming China is facing stagflation risks, arguing the national economic growth might slow slightly but stagflation is not going to occur.The NDRC response followed the release of a domestic report that claimed rising inflation and slowing economic growth would lead to stagflation in China.The NDRC added that the report was inaccurate and likely to cause misunderstandings and confusion, according to a statement released on its website.The statement went on to say growth in China's gross domestic product (GDP) was likely to slow down this year because of a higher comparison base used in the second half of last year, but it would still be one of the world's strongest growth rates and should not be labeled as "stagflation".Further, the NDRC noted that the consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of China's inflation, was likely to exceed the government's 3-percent growth target in several months, but "there is a foundation to achieve the full-year CPI target of 3 percent" as long as China continued improving macro-regulations, it said.The NDRC statement noted that China would see "stable and comparatively fast economic growth" and "a moderate consumer price increase" this year.China's GDP rose 11.9 percent from a year earlier during the first quarter of this year. The CPI increased 2.4 percent year on year in March while the growth for April accelerated to 2.8 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).The NBS is scheduled to release May economic data, including the CPI, fixed asset investment and retail sales, on June 11.
