VISTA (CNS) - Murder and child cruelty charges were filed Friday against a man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home.Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused in Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo, whose body was found in the home's bathroom.Police have not commented on her cause of death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used in her killing. In addition to murder, he's also charged with child cruelty in regards to Mariah, as well her 6-year-old sister, Viviana, who was also in the home at the time.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedAraujo was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom Friday afternoon, but did not appear because he was being held in "enhanced observation housing," though court staff did not elaborate. He's tentatively due to be arraigned Monday afternoon.The child's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, police spokesman Tom Bussey said.The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. Detectives questioned Araujo and took him into custody on suspicion of murdering his daughter, Bussey said.Members of the girl's family gathered at the Vista courthouse Friday and told reporters that Araujo was unstable and should not have been anywhere near his daughters.Karina Avina, Mariah's aunt, said Araujo's mother had custody of the children as numerous CPS cases were open and ongoing against him, though the circumstances of those cases was unclear."We want him to pay the max. That's what we want," Avina said. "We don't want a few years. We don't want him to get out. He needs to pay his whole life. (KGTV) - A dog owner has a warning for other pet owners after her 5-year-old English Bulldog died during a dental cleaning at a Vista pet hospital."I just thought it was a routine visit," said Kristine Ortiz.Ortiz's nightmare began two Tuesdays ago at Banfield Pet Hospital in Vista, after she brought Chesty in for a dental cleaning. Chesty is her emotional support dog. Ortiz, a medically retired Marine, lives with a rare and debilitating bone disease. Ortiz got the call just before 3 in the afternoon."Just in shock. I remember screaming ... I've had surgery six times since I got my dog, and she's been with me the whole time, so it was very emotional," said Ortiz. Ortiz demanded an explanation."They told us he had an adverse reaction to the medicine and everything they were administering," said Ortiz.That didn't make sense to Ortiz. Chesty, a healthy dog, had been put under during two previous cleanings and never had any issues. An internet search shows complaints of deadly dental cases across the country. (KGTV) - The parents of a two-year-old boy say they're still reliving the terrifying experience they faced in a store parking lot over the weekend.Peter Kopcak and his fiance Jennifer Lawson were backing out of the Costco parking lot on Hacienda Drive in Vista Saturday afternoon."I just seen out of the corner of my eye this guy running down between the two cars, and I didn't know what he was doing," said Kopcak.The couple said the guy tried to rip their toddler out of his car seat."He opened the car seat back door, reached in and grabbed my kid, she jumped out of the car, left it in reverse, I put it in park. I jumped out, he was trying to grab the carseat and, she pushed him and I just had to take him down," said Kopcak.Kopcak tackled the man to the ground."I took him to the ground and did what I had to do to subdue him, a bunch of people, an off duty officer pulled me off the guy and held him down told him to put his hands behind his back," said Kopcak.Sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Adam Glavinic. He's facing charges of felony attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance."I thought he was going to take my kid and I wasn't about to let that happen, I'd do anything I could to stop him cause that's the worst nightmare, just having someone A, touch your kid, B, try to take your kid," said Kopcak.The couple was also upset to learn Glavinic was released from jail on a 0,000 bail Sunday."I couldn't stop crying when I found out, cause he will do this to someone else and who knows if it's a single mom or the husband isn't quick enough, and the guy takes off," said Lawson."I don't understand how he got out so fast. What if he tries to grab another kid or hurt someone else? It boggles my mind," said Kopcak.There's a backlog of out of custody cases due to the pandemic.
