China and the EU need to bear the trends of historic reforms in mind, grasp opportunities, accurately position the comprehensive strategic partnership amid a multipolar world and economic globalization, and realize the innovative development of China-EU cooperation so as to benefit the peoples of both sides and the world, the Chinese president said.

In recent years, the two sides have formed a mechanism for cooperation. China has set up a secretariat for bilateral cooperation while CEE countries each has designated a counterpart department or a national coordinator to work with the secretariat.

Under the China-UK Global Development Partnership set up in 2011, the two countries will now focus on working together to reduce poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in other developing countries.

The pledge came out of talks between China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang and Bulgarian Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov at the Great Hall of the People.

He urged all SCO members to conduct mutually-beneficial cooperation based on equality and consultation, so that they will become good neighbors, good friends and good partners.
