Several NFL teams reported Wednesday that players had tested positive for COVID-19, putting at least three games scheduled for this weekend in jeopardy.According to ESPN and NFL Network, among those players who tested positive was Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore, the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Gilmore played in Monday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, potentially spreading the virus to reigning Super Bowl champs.Gilmore's positive test comes after Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for the virus on Saturday. Following Newton's positive test, the NFL moved the Chiefs/Patriots game from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening. The Patriots did not leave for Kansas City until Monday morning, after a round of negative tests. Newton did not travel to Kansas City.In addition, at least one more player for the Tennessee Titans tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday morning, just hours before the team was scheduled to reopen its facility for the first time in over a week.NFL Network and ESPN both confirmed that the Titans would not reopen their facility on Wednesday following the positive test. The Titans have not practiced or met in person since last Tuesday, when several players and team employees tested positive for the virus. Since then, several more team members have also tested positive. The NFL requires multiple consecutive days of no positive tests before reopening a team facility. The Titans were set to do so on Wednesday after reporting no positive tests on Monday and Tuesday. The new positive test puts the Titans' game on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in jeopardy. The outbreak has already forced the postponement of the team's home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was scheduled for last Sunday. Finally, ESPN reports that one member of the Las Vegas Raiders tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. The Raiders lost to the Bills in Las Vegas last Sunday and were scheduled to play the Chiefs this Sunday afternoon. 1991

Some of the COVID-19 vaccine candidates call for more than one shot, so how do we make sure patients come back?Three experts all tell us preparing people for the side effects will be critical.A nursing researcher described those side effects in a JAMA article. She suspects she had the experimental vaccine as part of Pfizer’s Phase III clinical trials. After the second shot, she said she was light-headed, nauseous, had a headache, ran a fever, and was hardly able to lift her arm from muscle aches. She wasn't warned and it scared her into thinking she might have COVID-19.“The immune system is revving up,” said LJ Tan, Chief Strategy Officer at the Immunization Action Coalition. “It's responding to that vaccine, and I think we need to tell our patients that so that they expect that. Otherwise, they're going to say, ‘wow that thing hurt, I'm not coming back for that second dose.’”For comparison, a recent shingles vaccine also requires more than one dose and can be painful. Providers and advocates lead education efforts on what to expect. The return rate after the first shot for shingles is about 80%, which is considered high. One suggestion is to put information on side effects in COVID-19 vaccine distribution kits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has already said it plans to include index cards that tell patients what they had and when their next dose is due. That's on top of electronic reminders like email or texts. The federal government has also promised to cover most costs for the vaccine. One doctor says he'd take that a step further.“I feel extremely strongly that we should do everything we can in terms of customized, personalized patient support programs, and even recommend that the federal government go beyond free and provide small rewards or incentives for people who complete the two-dose program,” said Dr. A. Mark Fendrick, Director of the University of Michigan's Center for Value-Based Insurance Design. There's some protection for people who only get one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, but nearly full protection is better. The second dose also boosts antibodies.“That's important because of waning immunity. The higher your antibodies when you start, the longer it takes for that to decrease over time, and potentially make you more susceptible,” said Dr. Gregory Poland, Director of the Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group. That means the best thing is to get both doses as was tested in the study. 2463

Spencer Davis, bandleader of the self-titled group that reeled off such hits as "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," has died at the age of 81.Davis died Monday while being treated for pneumonia in a hospital, Rolling Stone reported.Steve Winwood, who served as lead singer of the Spencer Davis Group, called Davis "an early pioneer of the British folk scene" in a statement released Tuesday and said Davis was "like a big brother" to him."He was definitely a man with a vision and one of the pioneers of the British invasion of America in the sixties," Winwood said.Founded in Birmingham, England, in 1963, Davis teamed with Winwood, his bass-playing brother, Muff Winwood, and drummer Pete York to form the quartet. The band's first No. 1 single, "Keep On Running," was released in 1965.In the next two years, the Spencer Davis Group followed with another pair of hits -- "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," both of which cracked the top 10 on the U.S. charts."Gimme Some Lovin'" has been featured in several popular movies, including "The Big Chill," "Days of Thunder" and "Striptease."In recent years, the band is arguably known for its trick trivia question, "Who was the lead singer of the Spencer Davis Group?"Winwood eventually left the band to form Traffic in 1967, but the Spencer Davis Group carried on without him, though with far less success. The group eventually disbanded in 1969.This story was originally published by Peter Burke at WPTV. 1463

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The St. Joseph Police Department (SJPD) is investigating after a woman found a bomb on her front porch.Alexis Washington was up late with her newborn daughter and young son when she heard a loud pop and saw a flash of red light. When she came outside to check it out, she found the bomb on her porch."The cop told me then that the propane tank was leaking, there was ammunition on top of it with a paper towel that was lit on fire," Washington said. "A bomb? I just don't understand, like a bomb? You can't fight that. That's why it's just like you've got to go. I got to go."SJPD Cpt. Jeff Wilson said the bomb was definitely homemade. The porch was doused with kerosene."I don't have any words for it because I don't see how you could do that," Washington said.SJPD and the ATF are investigating.Washington is thankful her family got out safely."All I can say is it was God, you know, because it went out," said Washington. "The paper towel went out and that's what saved us." 1019
