"We plan for the unplannable."That's how "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" host puts on a nightly comedy show in the Trump era."It's the 5:30 curse," Noah told CNN's Brian Stelter in a recent interview about his nightly Comedy Central show. "Around 5:30 every single day, that's when the news will break."One glaring example came last week when news broke that AT&T had made payments to Michael Cohen — President Donald Trump's longtime lawyer — in exchange for insight into Trump's thinking on various issues pertinent to AT&T. The news broke around 5 p.m. and AT&T confirmed it at 6:30 p.m. Journalists and comedians scrambled to catch up for their shows.Noah said, "We don't scramble anymore. Now we expect it."Noah took over the late-night comedy program from longtime host Jon Stewart in 2015, just as the presidential race began to heat up.Stelter asked Noah how his show fits into the current era."I think, as the world comes to change, our purpose in that world changes," Noah said. When "there's not much strife, I generally find the comedy will be benign," he added. "As things become scarier, as the world becomes less secure, as people question, you know, the security that they exist within, that's when comedy becomes more cutting, because, in many ways, it's the release valve to that fear or to that tension." 1354
(CNN) -- A man who was mistakenly circumcised in a hospital mix-up has been awarded compensation, the hospital said.Terry Brazier, aged 70, went into Leicester Royal Infirmary for a bladder procedure known as a cystoscopy but was mistaken for another patient by hospital staff and circumcised. The hospital apologized and carried out an investigation, before confirming on Monday it had awarded Brazier a £20,000 (,300) payout.Brazier told the British newspaper the Daily Star that he was so distracted talking to hospital staff that he didn't notice he was getting the incorrect procedure until it was too late."They didn't know what to say when they found out they'd done it, they said they can't send me back to the ward and they needed to talk to me," he told the newspaper.Brazier added that finding out he had been circumcised was "a real surprise."Andrew Furlong, medical director at University Hospitals of Leicester, said in a statement: "We remain deeply and genuinely sorry that this mistake occurred, and I would like to take this opportunity to once again apologise to Mr Brazier.""We take events like this very seriously and carried out a thorough investigation at the time to ensure that we learnt from this incident and do all we can to avoid it happening again. Whilst money can never undo what happened, we hope this payment provides some compensation." 1381

While we can't comment on active litigation, we have taken appropriate actions including deactivating the Dasher from our platform for failing to follow and maintain our code of conduct." 377
(AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric confessed Tuesday to killing 84 people in a devastating Northern California wildfire. The dramatic court hearing was also punctuated by a promise from the company's outgoing CEO that nation's largest utility will never again put profits ahead of safety. PG&E CEO Bill Johnson appeared on the company's behalf in Butte County Superior Court to plead guilty to 84 felony counts of involuntary manslaughter. They stem from a November 2018 wildfire ignited by the utility’s crumbling electrical grid. In total, the Camp Fire burned through 153,336 acres and almost completely destroyed the town of Paradise.Johnson solemnly looked at photos those who died while acknowledging the company's responsibility for the fire. 760
(CNN) -- Christie Brinkley's daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook will be replacing her mom on this season of "Dancing with the Stars" after the supermodel fell and broke her arm during rehearsals, Christie's rep confirms to CNN."Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on 'Dancing with the Stars' this season," Christie said in a statement to "Good Morning America." "Sailor joined the cast when I got mine ... ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!"Her rep says that Brinkley tripped over her partner's foot during a turn, and suffered a fall.ABC said in a statement to PEOPLE that Brinkley required surgery to her wrist and arm."We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor," the statement said.Brinkley's daughter has already started rehearsals for the show, which premieres Monday."I felt this high of just attacking something I was so afraid of and it felt like something I need to do," she told "GMA." "I think it will change me."She added her mom is her inspiration."I'm doing this mostly for my mom!" she said. "I just want to make her happy and make her proud. She loved doing this, she loves dancing and she loves performing and getting hurt was her worst nightmare."The intense rehearsal schedule has also sidelined Jewel and Nancy O'Dell in the past. In Season 8, they were both injured during pre-show practices. 1450
