SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The high temperatures, dry brush, and low humidity are leading to elevated fire danger in San Diego County this week.Cal Fire San Diego is asking everyone to be prepared for the possibility of a wildfire igniting.“We depend on the public to be careful; we depend on the public to be prepared at a moment’s notice to evacuate,” said Cal Fire Captain, Isaac Sanchez.“The fact that the winds aren’t there, it does not help us sleep at night; we’re still very dry. It’s still October, and we know that even though there aren’t winds now, we can bet money that there will be winds later.”As fire danger remains a threat across the county, families braved the heat taking schoolwork outside at Mast Park in Santee, after being stuck at home for months.“It’s so much easier for the kids to stay motivated on getting their work done,” Jennifer Sailler. “It’s harder to stay inside our home with the AC running than it is to be outside in the warm heat.”The heat is also keeping business going for some.“My job requires me to have a close relationship with snakes and the sun,” said Alex Trejo, So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal. “When it’s hot, what they’re actually doing is trying to find shelter. “Trejo removes rattlesnakes from properties and relocates them to areas where they can have a second chance at life.He said he’s been getting more calls for rattlesnake removals in the East County during the hot weather.“It’s very important to understand the nature of the snake; the snake is not out to hurt people, the snake is a survival expert,” he said. “My priority is making sure families are safe during this heatwave because they will be coming on people’s properties right now.”The heat advisory will remain in effect until 5 PM Friday. 1757

SAN DIEGO, California — A former Major League Baseball pitcher was awarded .3 million for injuries sustained after punching a man reportedly on LSD outside his Northern California home.Greg Reynolds claimed his career was cut short after he broke his hand punching Domenic Pintarelli on Jan. 16, 2015. Reynolds' attorney?Niall McCarthy says his client was attacked outside his home by Pintarelli, who was attending a party next door at a neighbor's house.McCarthy said both Pintarelli and the neighbor, Connor Pope, had taken LSD. Pope did not attack Reynolds but Pintarelli did, he alleges.Reynolds punched Pintarelli, breaking his pitching hand and costing his ability to "move and control" a baseball, McCarthy argues. Evidently, a jury agreed, awarding the former MLB pitcher .3 million in damages. The award includes 0,000 for Greg Reynolds's wife, Megan.Reynolds started pitching for the Colorado Rockies' minor league team in 2006 before moving up to the big leagues in 2008. He also pitched for the Texas Rangers in 2012 and the Cincinnati Reds in 2013.Reynolds went on to pitch in Japan in 2014 before the incident. The San Diego Padres signed Reynolds to a minor league contract in 2016 but ended up releasing him.After his baseball career ended, Reynolds returned to his alma mater of Stanford to earn a degree in economics, according to The Mercury News. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Chesa Boudin, the son of anti-war radicals sent to prison for murder when he was a baby, has won San Francisco's tightly contested race for district attorney after campaigning to reform the criminal justice system.The former deputy public defender declared victory Saturday night after four days of ballot counting determined he was ahead of interim District Attorney Suzy Loftus. The latest results from the San Francisco Department of Elections gave Boudin a lead of 8,465 votes.Loftus conceded and said she will work to ensure a smooth and immediate transition.Boudin, 39, became the latest candidate across the nation to win district attorney elections by pushing for sweeping reform over incarceration. He said he wants to tackle racial bias in the criminal justice system, overhaul the bail system, protect immigrants from deportation and pursue accountability in police misconduct cases."The people of San Francisco have sent a powerful and clear message: It's time for radical change to how we envision justice," Boudin said in a statement. "I'm humbled to be a part of this movement that is unwavering in its demand for transformation."Boudin entered the race as an underdog and captured voters' attention with his extraordinary life story: He was 14 months old when his parents, who were members of the far-left Weather Underground, were imprisoned for their role in an armored car robbery in upstate New York that left two police officers and a security guard dead.His mother, Kathy Boudin, served 22 years and his father, David Gilbert, may spend the rest of his life in prison."Growing up, I had to go through a metal detector and steel gates just to give my parents a hug," Boudin said in his campaign video.He said that as one of the dozens of people whose lives were shattered by the deadly robbery in 1981, he experienced first-hand the destructive effects of mass incarceration and it motivated him to reform the nation's broken criminal justice system.He was raised in Chicago by Weather Underground leaders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn before studying law at Yale University. SAN DIEGO, California — One year ago, life forever changed for Navy EOD technician Kenton Stacy and his family.He was in a Syrian hospital clearing IEDs when one exploded, leaving him with a two percent chance of survival. His comrades fought to save his life and did, but Kenton was left paralyzed and unable to talk.He's now receiving care at the VA Medical Center in La Jolla.“We’re all ready for him to come home, it's just been hard juggling being here, being with the kids," said Lindsey Stacy, Kenton's wife.The couple has four children, one with special needs.As they work through Kenton's recovery, the family was hit with yet another unexpected hardship.They've been renting their Chesapeake, VA home for the last two years, not realizing tenants were destroying the house.The carpet and blinds were destroyed as well as much of the hardwood floors. The tenants also smoked cigarettes in the home."I just couldn't believe that people would destroy someone else’s property like that, shocking and it hurt,” said Lindsey.She shared what happened on their Facebook page #StacyStrong.It didn't take long for the community to step up and help make it right, with members of the EOD community spending hours to repair the house.Real estate agent Julie Fish, wife of an EOD tech, also stepped up to help.She's going to help sell the house without taking a commission and has enlisted help for labor and needed repairs. "The EOD community, they really have made it that they're taking care of it and it's one less thing I have to worry about," said Lindsey. "It really hits home that everyone really does just care and sees how much he has sacrificed for our country."Fish says many have already stepped up to help with the house but that they may still need a sliding door and fence.Those wanting to help the Stacy family can also donate to their Go Fund Me page.  1885
