SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Padres plan to walk into the 2021 season with a World Series pitcher on the roster, trading for Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell.The deal, reported by The Athletic and ESPN, would see Snell head to San Diego in exchange for top pitching prospect Luis Pati?o, catcher Francisco Mejía, pitcher Cole Wilcox, and catcher Blake Hunt.The deal will be finalized pending a medical review, the outlets report. The addition of Snell to San Diego will help the team build a formidable starting pitching rotation heading into 2021, after adding Cleveland ace Mike Clevinger last season. Other Padres pitchers Dinelson Lamet, Chris Paddack, Zach Davies, and MacKenzie Gore also add strong arms to the mix.Snell, 28, went 4-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 starts in 2020, including a strong final appearance in Game 6 of the 2020 World Series allowing only two hits and one run with nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings.He went 2-2 with a 3.03 ERA in six starts during the 2020 playoffs. In 2018, Snell won the American League Cy Young Award with a 21-5 record and a 1.89 ERA.The Padres would see 21-year-old Pati?o head to Tampa Bay. The pitching prospect debuted for San Diego last season, appearing in 11 games and starting one. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service is handling nearly 16 billion deliveries this holiday season, a record number.Warren Burton, a program manager at the USPS, says it is a 12 percent increase from last year.“There’s a lot of online shopping,” he said, “a lot more than last year.” As a result, the USPS processing and distribution center at Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego added more seasonal workers. About 1,100 people are working around the clock up from the normal staffing of close to 900.“We gear up all year for this time of the year, we know it’s going to be non-stop, high volume-high demand,” Burton added.The White House declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday this year, but Burton says that USPS will remain open on Christmas Eve.“We greatly appreciate the gesture, but we’re going to keep working so we can keep the mail going,” Burton said.He says Dec. 20 is the last day to mail out a package or holiday card to make sure it is delivered by Christmas Day using regular shipping. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Humane Society is asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for seriously injuring a little dog.On Aug. 5, at around 5:30 p.m., a passerby found a severely injured Chihuahua in an alley near 339 S. 39th Street in San Diego’s Mountain View area.Humane Society officials said the one-year-old dog is in critical but stable condition “with a guarded prognosis” and is being cared for at the Humane Society’s Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine.Details on the dog's injuries were not released.San Diego Humane Society Humane Law Enforcement Chief Bill Ganley said, “We are hoping someone might recognize this dog and can help us find the person who did this. This is a helpless animal who did not stand a chance against the person who decided to hurt him. It is heartbreaking.”Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to ,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of people gathered in Balboa Park to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease.The annual “Walk for Alz” is one of the biggest Alzheimer’s awareness events in San Diego. Ken Darling has been participating in the event for the last 10 years.“My mom has passed but, I keep coming back to say thank you to an organization that helps other people going through this disease," Darling said.The Walk for Alz is put on by Alzheimer’s San Diego. The organization offers free resources to caregivers and family members of people in need.“It’s a family disease,” says Eugenia Welch, President of Alzheimer’s San Diego. “It effects so much more than just the person who is diagnosed because the whole family has to adjust their way of life to make sure that person is safe.”About 84,000 people in San Diego County are currently living with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia. That number is up from the 65,000 reported cases last year. Alzheimer’s San Diego says the goal for the event is to raise at least 0,000. All the money goes to resources in San Diego County.  1112
