CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Instead of making a giant jack o'lantern or a massive pie that could feed the whole town, a farmer in Tennessee took his 910-pound pumpkin out for a spin in his pond.It's been Justin Ownby's dream to grow a giant pumpkin. And for the past four years, he has been trying to reach his goal of growing a 1,000 pound pumpkin, his wife, Christin, told CNN.This year the farmer from Cleveland, Tennessee, had an extra special seed to plant in May - a seed from last year's record-breaking pumpkin grown in Tennessee that weighed more than 1,700 pounds, according to Christin."He was out there daily watering it, covering it during the heat of the day and making sure the beetles didn't get to it," she said.When it was done growing, the pumpkin was hauled onto a trailer. With the help of a neighbor, who had access to a large scale, it was weighed."It's the biggest we ever grew," she said. "The largest before was 220 pounds."Justin hollowed out the pumpkin to harvest the seeds and then decided to have some fun with the kids, Christin said. On Monday night, he plunged the pumpkin in the pond on the family's property, climbed inside and with an oar in hand he started paddling around. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Bodycam video released by Colorado Springs police Thursday shows 19-year-old De'Von Bailey running from officers when he was fatally shot earlier this month.Police claim Bailey and another man were suspects in a robbery that happened minutes earlier Aug. 3 and that Bailey had a weapon. Video showed police grabbing something from between Bailey's legs, but the footage does not clearly show what it was. Authorities have said officers recovered a weapon at the scene.The bodycam video shows Bailey and the other man standing in the street in front of police with their hands up. The officers, Sgt. Alan Van't Land and officer Blake Evenson, told Bailey and the other man that they had gotten a report of "two people, similar descriptions, possibly having a gun."One officer told the two of them to not reach for their waist and that they would check to make sure they didn't have a weapon. As another officer walked up behind Bailey, the teen took off running to his right. The officer with the bodycam chased Bailey and pulled out his weapon, yelling, "Hands up! Hands up!" The officers then fired at least eights shots at Bailey, striking him in the lower back.Bailey fell to the ground and an officer again yelled, "Hands up! Hands up!" Bailey lifted one hand and then fell back to the ground. The officers immediately called for a medical kit and began tending to Bailey's wound. As the officers searched Bailey's body, they found "something between his legs," Evenson said on the video. CINCINNATI — Major Chris Ketteman says the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is doing its best to keep drugs out of the Justice Center after three overdoses in the last six months.“In the old days, we were worried about tobacco coming in. This is a much more serious problem,” said Ketteman, who’s in charge of Justice Center operations.The sheriff’s office says it is continuing to investigate the apparent overdose death of a 31-year-old Satwinder Singh in March. Singh was accused of driving while intoxicated, swerving onto a sidewalk and killing a 2-year-old boy in a stroller in January.Last November, two other inmates in custody at the Justice Center also overdosed. Deputies revived both inmates with Narcan and they survived.More than 30,000 people come through the Justice Center every year and deputies follow a very strict procedure to make sure inmates don’t bring drugs into the jail.Ketteman said the screening process inmates go through before entering the jail includes everything from a patdown to a strip search to a full-body X-ray scan and the use of narcotics K-9s."They only have to be right once,” Ketteman said. “We have to be right each and every time.”The problem is not unique to Hamilton County.“It’s something that every jail across Ohio, every jail across this country is facing,” Ketteman said,In August 2018, an inmate at the Ross Correctional Facility in Chillicothe, Ohio apparently overdosed from a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, sending 27 exposed staff members to the hospital.Last week, an inmate at a jail in a Cleveland suburb died after a suspected drug overdose.“When there’s a will, there’s a way,” said Sarah Manchak, criminology professor at the University of Cincinnati.Opioids have changed the game, Manchak said, pointing out that addicts need less of the substance to get high.“It’s much easier than trying to smuggle in some of the other drugs of the past where larger quantities are needed,” Manchak said.Ketteman said the trick to preventing smuggling is to constantly adapt.“We are doing everything we can within our power and within legal means to stop it,” Ketteman said. “Are we going to be 100 percent all the time? No, but we’re doing everything we can to try to hit that.”Singh’s case is an ongoing investigation. 2286
