The ceremony, which will take place in Mira Mesa on Friday afternoon, will be emceed by ABC 10News reporter Melissa Mecija.The 49-year-old Jo Koy, whose real name is Joseph Herbert, has established himself as one of the most popular comedians in the world in recent years, with several Netflix specials, sold-out comedy tours, and other media endeavors under his belt.In a statement, Cate, a second-generation Filipino-American, said: “Jo Koy is iconic and a trailblazer. His homage to the Philippines has reached the lives of millions of people worldwide. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday he's worried about family gatherings around California ahead of the Fourth of July weekend and will announce new measures to dial back reopenings on Wednesday.Newsom said the prospect of family gatherings, not just bars or demonstrations, this weekend has health officers worried about the continued spread of the coronavirus. He added that new measures related to enforcement will also be announced on Wednesday."Tomorrow we will be making some additional announcements on efforts to use that dimmer switch we've referred to and begin to toggle back on our stay-at-home order and tighten things up," Newsom said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For most of the year, a favorite Ladera Street surf spot has been closed after part of the cliff gave way. After the cliff collapsed the City declared an emergency situation because lifeguards have raised concerns about having access to the beach. In a City Council meeting Monday, a decision was made to fast-track a project that will stabilize the cliff by scaling it back. Members of the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park Advisory Board want to the City to find a different solution. "This is just a temporary fix but it's causing permanent damage to the whole cliffside," said Point Loma resident Aaron Taylor. Aside from urging the City to spend more time on the issue, there are some on the committee who think the access point should be moved to another location altogether."You go down the stairs now you're in the tidal zone you're in a danger zone," said Kim Haynes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fifty years ago this week, millions of Americans sat glued to their televisions as the first humans prepared to step on the moon.The defining moment was filled with both excitement and tension, happening less than a decade after President John F. Kennedy set the ambitious goal. "I was a young fighter pilot in Germany at the time, and when I heard him say we were going to go the moon within the decade of 1969, that was eight-and-a-half years, I said man, I mean, we can't possibly do that," said Charlie Duke. Little did Duke know he would have a front-row seat to the historic mission, becoming an astronaut in 1966.During the Apollo 11 mission, Duke served as Capsule Commander (CAPCOM), meaning he communicated directly with the Apollo 11 astronauts. Duke says after the July 16, 1969 launch everything was initially running smoothly."We gave them a-go for descent, and they started the engine and then almost immediately we started having this series of problems," remembers Duke.Communications were going in and out, and the landing computer was signaling an overload."The tension with all of these problems building up began to mount in Mission Control so the closer we got to the ground, or to the moon, the more tense it became," said Duke.The crew was off target for the landing, forced to fly manually to find a safe spot to touch down at, with only minutes left of fuel. "It was really tense, so you hung on every foot of altitude and every second at the end there, but we made it, with a few seconds to go," said Duke. Duke says once he heard the following words from Neil Armstrong it was as if a big balloon popped, dissolving all of the tension in Mission Control. "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed," Armstrong said as the Eagle landing module reached the moon's surface on July 20."Roger, Twank ...Tranquility, we copy you on the ground.
