Three weeks into the 2019 racing season, both attendance and overall betting handle are down at Del Mar. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club says attendance is down about 5 percent, and handle is down 14 percent compared to 2018. "We've got to prove to our racing fans that we're doing the safest things we can to keep these horses healthy," he said. Harper says the track has increased safety protocols that have been helping keep horses safe. "There's vets out there every morning keeping an eye on," he said. Three inmates in a suburban Atlanta jail are being credited with saving a deputy's life.The Gwinett County Sheriff's Office says the trio noticed the officer was not feeling well as he conducted security procedures.After he returned to his seat, the deputy lost consciousness. He then fell to the floor and hit his head.The inmates began pounding on the doors loudly enough to wake up the deputy, who then opened the cell doors.After that, he lost consciousness again. But the inmates stayed by his side and administered aid until help arrived.The deputy is now recovering at home."These inmates came to his aid because our deputy, like most law enforcement officers, treats people with the dignity they deserve," the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. "These inmates had no obligation whatsoever to render aid to a bleeding, vulnerable deputy, but they didn't hesitate. Many people have strong opinions about law enforcement officers and criminals, but this incident clearly illustrates the potential goodness found in both.""We're proud of our deputy, whose strong desire to serve gave him the strength to activate the door release when he believed an inmate needed his help. Three men have been banned from Yellowstone National Park after a park ranger caught them cooking chickens in a hot spring.Back on Friday, Aug. 7, a park ranger was alerted that a group of men with cooking pots were hiking toward's the park's Shoshone Geyser Basin, the East Idaho News reported. Shortly after that, the ranger found two whole chickens in a burlap sack in a hot spring and a cooking pot nearby.According to the Associated Press, when defendant Eric Roberts, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was asked about what the group was up to, he said they were making dinner.Of West Valley City, Utah, Dallas Roberts and Roberts were ordered to serve two days in jail and pay 0 in fines and fees, and Eric Romriell, of Idaho Falls, paid ,250 in fines and fees, the AP reported.According to the AP, the men are banned from Yellowstone while serving two years of unsupervised probation.As for whose idea it was, Eric Roberts said it was a "joint thing," the AP reported.According to the park's website, the hot springs have "injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature."
