BOSE, Guangxi, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's top lawmaker urged the southwest Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to build more transportation infrastructure and accept more industries from developed areas.     Guangxi should try to find a road for development compatible to its own realities, said Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), during his tour of the region which wraps up Wednesday.     Wu said the region should use the advantages it has such as low labor costs and natural resources to develop rural areas.     Wu, who is also member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visited local villages, factories and schools to talk about rural reforms made at the recent Third Plenary Session of the Seventeenth CPC Central Committee.     He said the region should use its advantage of having a lengthy coastline and many sea ports, to make the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone the top recipient of development.     During his tour, Wu paid a visit to the Bose Memorial Hall, in Bose City. It was built to commemorate a 1929 uprising led by revolutionaries including Deng Xiaoping.     He laid a floral basket in front of the statues of Deng and his comrades. Deng is known as the Chief Architect of China's 30 year-old Reform and Opening-up drive.

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday stressed confidence, cooperation and responsibility as key to overcoming the current global financial crisis.     The global financial crisis is a challenge for the whole world, and the pressing task for the international community is "to take further measures to restore market confidence as soon as possible," Wen told participants attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in the Swiss skiing resort of Davos.     In tackling the crisis, confidence is the source of strength, practical cooperation the effective way and accepting responsibilities the prerequisite, he said in his special message at the forum.     "We should not only take more forceful and effective steps to tide over the current difficulties, but also push for the establishment of a new world economic order that is just, equitable, sound and stable," Wen said.     To this end, international economic cooperation and a sound multilateral trading regime should be promoted, and the reform of the international financial system should be advanced, he said. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- China will adopt a flexible and prudent macro-control policy to keep a stable and rapid economic development in the current fourth quarter, according to the State Council here on Sunday.     Related financial, credit and foreign trade measures will be carried out in the near future in response to the slowing trend of the country's economic growth and the continuous fluctuation in the domestic capital market amid the ongoing global financial crisis, according to a State Council meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday.     Agriculture continued to be a priority, with multiple support policies to come following the Communist Party of China Central Committee's decision to strengthen rural development this week.     To boost development of small- and medium-sized enterprises, the government planned to widen their investment channels by further encouraging financial institutions to give out more loans. Companies would also get more fiscal support for technology innovation.     In addition, the country would reinforce national investment in areas such as the southwest quake-zone reconstruction, infrastructure development and social welfare system, among others.     With regard to the foreign trade sector, the State Council, China's Cabinet, decided to increase imports of goods of domestic need and support the country's exports so as to realize the balance of international payments.     "We will further raise the export rebate of labour-intensive products such as garments and textiles, as well as mechanical and electrical products with high-added value," the council said.     In addition, the country's top administrative body would still keep a cautious eye on price increases with a focus on agricultural and energy related goods.     The advent of September's tainted milk scandal had also prompted the central government to pay closer attention to food safety in the fourth quarter. Regulations on dairy product quality and safety, which took effect earlier this month, would be further reinforced, according to the council decision.     While acknowledging the affect of the worldwide economic slowdown on the domestic economy, the Cabinet still expressed confidence for the nation to continue a healthy development.     "Our economy remains vigorous and has the capability to defend itself against international risks," Premier Wen Jiabao said at a State Council meeting on Friday.

BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry has demanded that the U.S. Embassy to China facilitate travel for the families of those killed and injured in Friday's tour bus crash near the Hoover Dam in Arizona. In a statement released Sunday, the ministry confirmed that six Chinese nationals died and nine were injured, including one from Hong Kong.     The Chinese Embassy in the United States and Consulate General in Los Angeles immediately dispatched a team assist U.S. authorities with treating the injured and investigating the accident. BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's chief negotiator Ching Pin-kung hailed Wednesday significant progress on cross-Straits relations over the past year.     The cross-Straits relations in 2008 have made several breakthroughs, said Chiang, chairman of the island's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), at Wednesday's press conference.     SEF and mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), the two main negotiation bodies, held their first meeting in Beijing last June after the talks were suspended for almost 10 years. The second meeting was held in Taiwan in November.     The two sides reached six agreements after the two rounds of talks, including the historical direct links of transport, trade and post services which started on December 15.     "With all these breakthroughs, the cross-Straits ties have turned to be normal and practical with mutual trust and understanding," Chiang said.     Chiang said SEF would persist with building "positive" and "interactive" cross-Straits relations in the coming new year.     The main topics in the next round of the talks between the mainland and Taiwan, scheduled for later this year, would include joint efforts on cracking down on crimes, financial cooperation and regular cross-Straits flights, Chiang said.     Board members, supervisors and consultants in SEF planned to visit the mainland in 2009, according to Chiang.
