SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Health officials are asking residents, schools, and businesses to prepare for the novel coronavirus. In a message posted on County News Center Thursday, the county urged people to prepare “for a potential outbreak” of the virus. “It’s important for everyone to educate themselves and their family and be prepared in case the new coronavirus makes its way to San Diego County,” said Chairman Greg Cox, County Board of Supervisors. “It’s also important for people not to panic as the risk for this new virus and the disease that it causes continues to be low.”RELATED: San Diego County AT&T store worker's initial coronavirus test comes back positiveBelow is list of what health officials say you can do to prepare: Store a two-week supply of food, beverages and water, including food for family pets. Ensure an adequate supply of prescribed and routine medications are on hand.Plan ways to care for those who are at greater risk for serious complications and who will take care of sick family members. If you have family members with increased risk of getting seriously sick, check with your medical providers about symptoms and treatment.Create an emergency contact list of family and friends, teachers and employers.Have a plan in case your school, child care, or employer closes temporarily.Talk with your children, family, and friends about what to do if an outbreak occurs and what each person would need. Those who own businesses can also take steps to prepare for the virus, the county says. RELATED: San Diego County officials to address efforts to prepare for coronavirusBelow is a list of things businesses can do to equip themselves for coronavirus: Encourage sick employees to stay home if they have symptoms of acute respiratory illness.Make sure your sick leave policies are flexible and consistent with public health guidance and that employees are aware of them.Have a plan in place should a large number of employees get sick or need to work from home.Sick leave policies should be flexible and permit employees to stay home if they need to care for a sick family member. If an employee shows up to work sick or becomes sick during work hours, separate them and send them home.Encourage sneezing and coughing etiquette and hand hygiene by all employees.Perform routine cleaning of all frequently touched surfaces in the workplace, such as workstations, countertops and doorknobs.Symptoms of coronavirus are similar to that of other seasonal illnesses and include fever, cough, and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. The CDC believes symptoms of the virus may appear in as little as two days or could take as long as 14 days to appear post-exposure. 2700

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays. The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Rd in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE: 10News?Election CoverageVoters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told 10News.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling 10News they wanted their votes to count. Provisional voting requires extra processing time to verify residences and identities. The San Diego Superior Court announced Monday it would have a judicial officer on hand to deal with any possible election-related issues, including registration, denial of registration of voters, certification or denial of certification of candidates or the certification or denial of certification of ballot measures.RELATED: Judicial officer on hand for Election DayVoters were encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800 with any concerns. 1411

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Family Fun Center has returned to its roots in Kearny Mesa, reopening the Clairemont Mesa Blvd. location on Saturday.Following the closure of Boomers! last June after parent company Apex Parks Group filed for bankruptcy, the Huish family — who own the land — has revived the site under its original name.Shane Huish says his father built the original park at the site in 1974 and operated it for about 20 years before it was sold to Boomers! in the 1990s."With that happening, our family was excited to get them back. However, when we went back to the parks in June, we were floored," said Shane Huish.Huish says the former Boomers! was in need of several improvements and upgrades.Among those needed improvements, miniature golf, bumper boats, and an arcade all in need of a facelift.Saturday, the park reopened Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with mini-golf on its Storybook and Westernland courses and go-karting, featuring updated karts and track. Also returning, Bullwinkle’s Restaurant.Huish says the park's bumper boats will need to wait for state guidance since they are considered an amusement park attraction."We have been fixing up the miniature golf courses and that will continue ... we have completely gutted the arcade building and remodeled it," Huish said, adding that the arcade will also have to await state guidance to reopen.Huish says the future of the former El Cajon Boomers!, which is also owned by the family, depends on how the business landscape looks in the next four to six months due to the pandemic. For now, a dose of family fun in the outdoors has returned to the property."Our family is super excited to be back in San Diego, we all grew up there," Huish said. For hours and more information, head to Family Fun Centers' website here. 1794

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Hate crime charges were filed against two men accused of assaulting a Black journalist who was covering a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in Imperial Beach in June. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office announced felony assault and battery charges, and hate crime allegations, were filed against 38-year-old Jeffrey Brooks and 32-year-old Henry Brooks Jr. in connection with the June 7 incident at a beach near Veterans Park.Warrants have been issued for the arrest of the two men.RELATED: Man says he was sucker punched at Imperial Beach protestThe DA’s Office alleged Brooks and Brooks Jr. were at the peaceful march in Imperial Beach when they began “verbally and physically antagonizing the protesters.”At one point, Brooks Jr. allegedly threw eggs at a group of protesters.“While recording the scene, the victim was sucker punched in the head by Jeffrey Brooks, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the ground,” the DA’s Office said in a news release. If convicted of all charges, Brooks faces three years in custody; Brooks Jr. faces six years.District Attorney Summer Stephan said, “Protecting our community from hate crimes is a priority for my office because hate erodes our right to equality and fairness, and it leaves an impact on the victim and everyone who shares the victim’s race.
