A ground search team in the Indian Himalayas has spotted five bodies on the unnamed peak where eight climbers are believed to have gone missing a week ago.Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogdande told CNN Monday that the bodies appear to be partially buried in an avalanche on the peak in different locations. The bodies were identified following analysis of photographs taken by a helicopter that conducted an air survey of the area earlier in the day.By Monday afternoon local time, the search operation had stopped for the day, Jogdande said. Now, authorities are formulating a plan to recover the bodies. On Sunday, helicopter teams saw signs of an avalanche on the peak the group were thought to be on, according to two state officials. On Monday a lone chopper went to recce the area and its crew discovered the backpack at an elevation of about 5,000 meters.Jogdande said it was likely the missing team had been caught up in a "huge avalanche.""The chances of survival are almost zero now," he said. The missing climbers -- four Britons, two Americans, an Australian and their Indian liaison officer -- went missing in the region of Nanda Devi East, one of the highest peaks in India at just over 7,400 meters (24,000 feet.)The group was attempting to scale a previously unclimbed and unnamed peak believed to be about 6,477 meters (21,250 feet) high, according to 1393

A judge has ruled that the cases against all three defendants charged with murder in the death of Ahmaud Arbery can advance to the trial court. During a probable cause hearing Thursday, Magistrate Court Judge Wallace Harrell found that there is enough evidence for the cases against Greg and Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan to proceed.According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Arbery was in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, when both Gregory and Travis McMichael confronted Arbery with two firearms on February 23. During the encounter, Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery, prosecutors said.Bryan filmed the encounter, but it took nearly 10 weeks for the video to be made public. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that an investigation was launched into Arbery's death as video spread online.Arbery’s death prompted a social media hashtag #JusticeForAhmaud. Arbery’s death prompted discussions nationally on the role racial bias plays in the criminal justice system. 1032

WASHINGTON – When the House of Representatives begins its public impeachment hearings, it will be a rare event – only the fourth time involving a president. Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton all faced varying degrees of the impeachment process. Now, so will President Donald Trump. “It is a political event,” said Georgetown Law Professor Victoria Nourse. She says while it is a high-profile event, she cautions to not call it “political theater.” “Impeachment was the last gasp, right? If someone did something completely antithetical to the nature of the Republic, if they were essentially unfit to serve in office, the founders wanted to have a backstop remedy, other than an election,” Nourse said. Here’s how the process will unfold: 1. Several House committees will hold public hearings. It’s up to the judiciary committee to decide if the full House will vote on impeachment. 2. Democrats hold the majority in the House– there are 235 of them. At least 218 representatives need to vote for impeachment for it to move on to the Senate. 3. The Senate holds the impeachment trial and acts as a jury. 4. Republicans have the majority in that chamber— 53 seats. An impeachment conviction requires a two-thirds majority vote. There are three offenses that are considered impeachable: - Treason - Bribery - High crimes and misdemeanors The Constitution does not define what high crimes and misdemeanors are, so it’s open to interpretation. “What it has to be is something that is very serious to the conduct of the nation's democracy,” Nourse said. That’s what is dividing Congressional Democrats and Republicans now: does President Trump’s actions involving Ukraine rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors? 1769
