BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday again called for more diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iran nuclear issue."We hope all the parties to further enhance diplomatic efforts on the Iran nuclear issue," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press conference.Jiang said China had maintained close contact with all the relevant parties and hoped all the parties would take more pragmatic and positive measures to properly solve the issue.China has always committed itself to safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, the spokesman said. The United States and its western allies have long accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program, and currently they are discussing a United Nations resolution to impose sanctions.Iran has denied the accusation and stressed its nuclear program was solely for peaceful purposes.

WASHINGTON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Powered by strong domestic demand, China's economy is expected to grow by 10 percent in 2010, said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday."In China, GDP growth exceeded the government's 8 percent target in 2009 and is expected to be close to 10 percent in both 2010 and 2011. What has been so far mainly a publicly driven growth path, built on infrastructure investment, is expected to turn toward stronger private consumption and investment," said the IMF in its latest World Economic Outlook report."Boosting domestic consumption will be a priority in China, through improved access to finance for small enterprises and households and stronger corporate governance and social safety nets to reduce precautionary saving," said the IMF.According to the report, in which the IMF said Asia's GDP is projected to grow by 7 percent in both 2010 and 2011, the strength in final domestic demand in China is expected to have positive spillovers for other Asian economies, particularly exporters of commodities and capital goods. In the report, the IMF said "the global recovery has evolved better than expected, with activity recovering at varying speeds, tepidly in many advanced economies but solidly in most emerging and developing economies."The world economy, which declined by 0.6 percent in 2009, will recover gradually in 2010 and 2011, growing by 4.2 percent and 4.3 percent respectively, said the IMF.

BEIJING, May 24 -- The United States yesterday pressed China to give "fair access" for foreign companies. At the same time, China stressed the risks both economies faced from Europe's debt woes, ahead of top-level talks in Beijing.Speaking in Shanghai, a day before the start of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stressed the importance of American economic concerns for relations with China."In the coming days, officials at the highest levels of our two governments will be discussing issues of economic balance and competition," Clinton said in a speech given in a vast hangar at Pudong International Airport.U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gives a speech during her visit to Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, east China, May 23, 2010."American companies want to compete in China," she said in front of a Boeing 737. "They want to sell goods made by American workers to Chinese consumers with rising income and increasing demand."Clinton's remarks underscored how large economic concerns will loom at the two-day meeting, jostling for attention with other issues, including North Korea. The US annual trade gap with China fell to US6.8 billion in 2009, down from a record US8 billion in 2008. But the Obama administration is keen to lift exports and employment, and the deficit remains a friction point. In comments published yesterday, China's Finance Minister Xie Xuren said cooperation with the US was all the more important in the face of the European debt crisis."At present, risks from European sovereign debt have increased factors of instability in the course of global economic recovery," Xie wrote an essay published in the Washington Post and on his ministry's Website.China and the US must "each protect macro-economic stability and strengthen macro-economic policy coordination, to consolidate the trend towards global economic recovery," Xie wrote.Xie's remarks jarred those of a senior US Treasury Department official who said ahead of the talks with China that Europe's crisis should have only minimal impact on the global recovery. There has been speculation that China may delay letting the yuan rise in value out of concern that its exports to Europe will suffer.

BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to further regulate the selection and promotion of government and Party cadres, the Communist Party of China (CPC) turned to the public for help in its four newly released documents."One breakthrough of these rules is we shift the focus from simply supervising the procedures of cadre selection and promotion to also weighing in what the colleagues and the locals think about," said a statement released Monday by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. The four documents, promulgated on March 31 by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, cover the selection and auditing of officials and set out penalties for those found guilty of misconduct in the selection and promotion of government and Party cadres.According to the new rules, personnel departments should consult staff within the organization on every newly appointed officials. The results, paired with local Party committees' official report on personnel changes, will be submitted annually to superior Party committees' for review. These opinions will also be incorporated into the work evaluation of officials in charge of local cadre selection and promotion. In serious cases, leading officials in the Party committees who misuse their power and violate CPC regulations on the selection and appointment of Party and government cadres could be dismissed from their posts, demoted, transferred to other posts, or asked to resign. To better solicit public opinions, Party committees at provincial levels across the country are moving to open online service and telephone hotline for whistleblowers to report such violations.According to the rules, personnel departments must carry out investigation based on detailed reports from the public and the media.
