BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee recently held a forum to solicit opinions and suggestions from non-Communist personages on the documents of its latest plenary session held late last week.     CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao briefed the leaders of the non-Communist parties, leaders of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and persons without party affiliation on what was considered when forming the document. He asked them to raise suggestions on its revision.     Some delegates made remarks, approving the summary made by the CPC Central Committee on the experiences of the 30 years of rural reform and development and supporting the guideline thinking, objectives, principles and measures of rural reform and development.     They raised suggestions on the overall plan of urban and rural development, farmland protection, grain security, spread of agricultural technology and rural financial system reform, as well as on deepening cross-Strait agricultural exchanges and cooperation and improving grassroots democracy.     After hearing the opinions, Hu said the suggestions were valuable and reflected the in-depth thinking of the participants. Relevant departments would conscientiously study and adopt them.     He added China was an agricultural country with the majority of its population in rural areas. Addressing issues on agriculture, the countryside and farmers would be taken as the fundamental work.     Since China launched its reform and opening up, the CPC Central Committee had held many plenary sessions to discuss agricultural and rural issues.     Facing new situations and tasks, the rural development system should be continually innovated, Hu said, adding rural reform remained the key to China's reform, and agriculture and rural development were still the strategic foundation of the country's development.     Promoting rural reform and development would bring the national economy and society into a new round of development, he added.     Hu asked the participants in the forum to contribute to the new socialist countryside construction by make in-depth study, identify and handle the protruding problems in rural reform and development in a timely manner, and raise relevant suggestions accordingly.     Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin and Xi Jinping, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the forum.     On Sunday, the CPC Central Committee approved a decision on major issues concerning rural reform and development at the close of a four-day meeting, such as doubling the income of rural residents, boosting their consumption by a big margin and basically eliminating absolute poverty in rural areas by 2020.

I feel deeply sorry for those dead brothers," said Pu Taihua, a rescuer in Beichuan, tears mixing with sweat on his face.     Although rescuers are being challenged by the rugged terrain and aftershocks in Sichuan, more than 100,000 soldiers and rescuers are still battling to search for buried survivors.     The quake victims, who are clinging to hope that their relatives have somehow survived, also took time to join the mourning.     In Beichuan County, one of the worst-hit areas in Sichuan, surviving students, wearing white T-shirts, stood with their heads deeply bowed. Some of them had been orphaned by the earthquake.     In Anxian County, also hit hard, more than 1,800 homeless residents gathered on open ground for the remembrance. His body was almost disfigured," said Chen.     After the memorial, residents wandered around the playground, reluctant to leave.     WOUNDS WILL HEAL     From herdsmen and hearing-impaired children to elderly survivors of the deadly 1976 Tangshan earthquake, from bus drivers in Beijing to barter traders along the China-Russia border in Manzhouli, grieving Chinese are rallying against the disaster.     "My best friend died in the earthquake, but wounds will heal, homes will be rebuilt and everything will be all right," said Zhang Xiaomei, a student in the Yinghua Middle School in Deyang City.     On Monday, a downtown square in Chengdu was crammed with thousands of people who shouted "Go, Sichuan!" "Go China!" amid tears.     "The people in Sichuan are not alone. The whole China of is supporting them," said Ma Guoxi, a student in Ningxia University.     Mark Hancock, an Australian teacher in Qinghai, joined hundreds of Chinese mourners in a downtown square in Xining, capital of Qinghai Province.     "It's been a terrible catastrophe for China, for the Chinese people," he said, struggling to hold back tears. "It's a time for China to demonstrate its enormous strength to overcome the tragedy, and people all over the world are with them and supporting them," he added.     "The earthquake took away people's lives, but it will not frighten the brave Chinese people into retreat. We will get over the hardships and a stronger China will have a better future," said He Bin, a police officer of the Anhui Provincial Public Security Department. The 34 injured, four seriously, were being treated in hospital.     An initial investigation showed that factors leading to the accident included the production and building of the pond was in violation of regulations. The mine also lacked a security checkup, failed to implement the orders for straightening up operations, in addition to the loose supervision of concerned safety departments.     The State Council, China's Cabinet, has ordered a nationwide safety check at similar production sites to root out hidden risks following the deadly accident.
