SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police have identified the woman shot and killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, at a Point Loma strip mall earlier this month.San Diego Police said 20-year-old Octavia Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., was fatally shot in the parking lot at 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. just before midnight on Oct. 9.Paramedics transported Williams to the hospital where she died.MAP: Track crime happening in San Diego CountyPolice identified Williams' killer as 41-year-old Joe Bennette Conway. Conway is believed to be Williams' boyfriend, according to City News Service, and the shooting took place after an argument.Conway was described as 5’7” tall and 150 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — October historically spells fire danger for San Diego and Cal Fire is asking everyone to be ready.The Cedar Fire started Oct. 25, 2003, and burned 280,278 acres. The Witch Creek-Guejito and Harris Fires started Oct. 21, 2007, and burned 288,430 acres. People lost their lives in both fires.Cal Fire Captain Issac Sanchez said it's extremely important San Diegans are prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. "Be ready to evacuate, have your defensible clearance space done. Not only do it, but do it responsibly. Do it first thing in the morning when temperatures are low and humidity levels are relatively high," Sanchez said.The weather contributes to a dangerous cocktail, increasing October's potency."You have that combination of fuel and weather really giving a one-two punch to us pretty consistently," Sanchez said.The Valley Fire in September reminded San Diegans of how quickly a spark can grow out of control and how fast evacuations can happen.Next week's weather doesn't look good, according to Sanchez. "It's going to be warm, it's going to be dry and there's going to be some sort of wind blowing from the east," says Sanchez. "That's the kind of combination that gets folks nervous around here."The good news is firefighters are coming home from working in northern California and will be standing by, in addition to Marines and Sailors."A strike team of Type 6 Fire Engines is just getting back to San Diego from the Creek Fire in Fresno," Sanchez said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a man they say snuck through a window into a Pacific Beach home and sexually assaulted a sleeping woman.10News met 25-year-old Christine Mansour, skateboarding along the beach.   The entrepreneur has lived in PB for the last three years, and so far, she loves her neighborhood. "There is a bit of homeless people honestly, but I've never felt unsafe," Mansour said. That is until a manhunt for a suspected rapist unfolded in her area. On Oct. 1, police said 55-year-old Jeffrey Hanze, also known as "Jeffrey Hanre," snuck into a home in the 900 block of Chalcedony Street, located off Mission Boulevard, just before 2 a.m. Once inside, police say he sexually assaulted a woman as she was sleeping, before fleeing the area in an unknown direction."I feel very sorry for her. I hope she is okay," Mansour said. Police said Hanze has been on the run ever since. We went to Hanze's Pacific Beach address nearby. Instead of Hanze, we met 75-year-old Janet Eveleigh, who told us she moved in eight months ago. Yesterday afternoon, she said police came over, searching for Hanze. "There were two at the door, and three over there, and they had guns," Eveleigh said. She told them she had never seen the man in her life. 10News also looked into Hanze's criminal past. We found he has at least two felonies out of San Diego, and was charged with several sex crimes in Arizona in 2011, including Public sexual indecency, indecent exposure to a person 15 years or more, and disorderly conduct. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a body was found in Balboa Park Wednesday afternoon. According to officers, the body was found on the 2100 block of Balboa Drive near Juniper Road and the San Diego Chess Club. The cause of death is unclear at this time. If meditation and yoga don’t do the trick, you can try axe throwing in Mission Valley.Battle Axe SD is generating new interest in the practice that’s similar to a game of darts. Players throw an axe at a wooden target and score points based on where the axe lands. There are three rounds, with five throws per player.Steve and Annie Wyland created the facility after throwing axes on the East Coast. Steve lost his job, and the couple decided to move to San Diego.Their new project offers experiences like birthday and bachelor/bachelorette parties, and corporate outings. Five of the facility’s 11 lanes are dedicated to walk-ins. There’s also league play on Wednesday nights.If you’ve never thrown an axe, don’t worry, BattleAxe SD says. The facility has an “Axpert” to instruct your group on proper throwing form, safety procedures and etiquette.Battle Axe SD is located at 6330 Riverdale St. and open Wednesday through Sunday nights. 993
