BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday China and the United States should make joint efforts to push forward cooperation on clean energy and climate change in a substantial way.     Wen said such cooperation is important work and in the interests of both countries and the world. He said the two countries should advance cooperation in this area to bring benefit to the human beings and future generations.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with participants of the Strategic Forum for U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation that began in Beijing Wednesday. The forum will last to Friday.     The forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese think tank China Institute of Strategy and Management and the Brookings Institution of the United States. Participants include Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and high-ranking officials from both governments. He said bilateral cooperation in this area has strategic significance and broad prospect.     Wen said the two sides should earnestly implement the agreement on the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework they signed in June, 2008.     He called for the governments, enterprises and researching institutes of both countries to join effort for this end.     Wen said energy efficiency and environment protection are both a basic strategy of China to achieve sustainable economic and social development and a major measure to cope with climate changes.     The American guests made positive comments on the efforts that China has made in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.     They expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in this respect.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday congratulated EU's top leaders elected on Thursday, vowing to further boost China-EU all-round strategic partnership.     Wen made the remarks in his meeting with a group of EU diplomats including former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Hungary's ex-Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, who were here to attend a China-EU forum.     The Belgian prime minister was unanimously elected on Thursday as the first full-time EU president and Britain's EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton as EU foreign policy chief.     "As a strategic partner of the EU, China congratulates the leaders elected and feels glad for that," Wen said.     Calling EU as an important pole of the world, Wen said the EU integration would help the 27-nation bloc to play greater role in international affairs.     He called for courage and insight of political figures of both sides, as well as support from various circles of the society to deepen China-EU relations.     "The Chinese government is ready to cement trust and deepen cooperation with EU to promote bilateral all-round strategic partnership," he added.     Some of the EU representatives told Wen both the EU and China shoulder great responsibilities in the world globalization. BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday warned that the rich nations should not "shift and shirk" responsibility on climate change, and urged them to provide developing countries with funds to deal with the global issue.     "According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), developed countries have responsibility to offer financial support to all developing countries on mitigating and adapting to climate change," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman told a regular news briefing.     "Funding is one of the key issues that will determine the success or failure of the Copenhagen conference. The offer of funds is the unshirkable responsibility of developed countries," said Jiang.     The UN Climate Change Conference, which opened Monday in Copenhagen, gathered representatives from 192 countries and aimed at mapping out a plan for combatting climate change from 2012 to 2020.     Financial support is a key issue at the talks.     Reports has quoted Todd Stern, U.S. special envoy for climate change, as saying that the United States would contribute to a fund aimed at helping developing nations deal with climate change, but China would not be a recipient of financial aid as it had a booming economy and large foreign exchange reserves.     "We hope that developed countries can positively respond to reasonable requests and suggestions from developing countries, demonstrate political sincerity and fulfil their obligations rather than shift and shirk responsibility," said Jiang.     "We hope the relevant parties make efforts to make the Copenhagen conference achieve results acceptable to all sides," Jiang said.
