Imagine trying to take a photo of an orange that's on the moon with your smartphone. It seems impossible. That's what it was like for scientists trying to capture an image of a black hole in space. Despite the tall order, an international team of more than 200 researchers unveiled the 297

It’s a sound that will change your life.“It’s magic; it’s the first real sign sometimes that you’re actually pregnant, to hear that heart,” said Elizabeth Madrid, a physician assistant. She's helping a new mom listen to her baby’s heart. This mom is a student at Florence Crittenton High School in Denver, Colorado. And at this school, all the students are moms or expecting moms. Like Emily Castaneda.“I never thought that I would go to an all-girls school, so it was kind of weird at the beginning. But I was like, I can relate to all of them, so I like it now,” said Castaneda.Castaneda is getting ready to graduate in May. She has a 1-year-old son named Eliin. Normally, she’d have to find daycare for him if she wanted to go to high school. That’s if she could afford it. “I’m like literally so close to him. I can come check him anytime. I probably wouldn’t even finish high school to be honest,” said Castaneda. This high school has daycare on-site, so new moms like Emily can continue their education. And if they need to see doctor for anything that moms, their kids, or expecting moms might need, they don’t have to go far. “We do prenatal care, we do their physicals for the children, we offer mental health services, we do dental services, any sick visits. We try to make it as easy as possible,” said Linda Almanza, a medical assistant at the clinic. The clinic, in partnership with Denver Health, helped Rebecca Roldan get through a scary moment when her second daughter had respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.“She almost passed... I was just scared, and like coming to the clinic, they helped me. Like you don’t have to be afraid, we’re here to help with whatever medical you need,” recalled Roldan.Roldan’s daughter was in the hospital for a while, but now she’s out and healthy. Not only is the school helping her with her daughter's health issues and finishing high school, but they’re helping her look to her future. She wants to be a mental health therapist.“I’m taking phlebotomy and medical office so it gets me like in the doorstep," she said. "I’m getting an internship. I don’t know where yet, but this summer I’ll be doing a medical internship."That’s high-level training for a high school student. But Florence Critterton provides what they call a MEDConnect program, courses and work-based learning experiences for students interested in a career in the healthcare or biomedical sciences field. There are a handful of schools that offer daycare across the country from LA to Maine, but the staff here thinks the on campus clinic makes it one of a kind. “This is the only Florence Critterton with a high school and a clinic attached, and a daycare,” said Almanza. While they think they’re unique, the people who work at Florence Critterton would love to see this type of school all over the country.“This could be a role model to a lot of places in America," said Almanza. "You know, teen moms is not a thing we choose, it’s something that happens sometimes. Instead of bashing it sometimes and making it something negative, let’s make it positive." 3084

It appears that Wayne Newton's former home Casa de Shenandoah has been sold.According to Clark County records, his 36-acre ranch sold for .56 million on July 22, 2019.Newton's former ranch, which includes a white mansion and 6 other homes and stables, was sold to Smoketree LLC, which has a Las Vegas address. In addition, a nearby commercial property at 3310 E. Sunset Road that was home to a gift shop and theater was sold on Sept. 24, 2019. The commercial property was sold to Harsch Investment Properties, which brought several other parcels in the same area. The properties were sold by ICSD LLC, which is based in Texas.ICSD purchased the properties in 2010 and transformed it into a tourist attraction. However, it was eventually placed into Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Newton initially had a 20 percent stake in the company. It is now controlled by business executive Lacy Harber. Newton originally purchased the property in 1966. This article was originally written by Joyce Lupiani for KTNV. 1022

Jury selection is scheduled Tuesday in the trial of Michael Rosfeld, a former East Pittsburgh police officer charged in the shooting of 17-year-old Antwon Rose II. The death of the unarmed teenager last year triggered protests and outrage in Pittsburgh over the officer's use of deadly force. On June 19, Rosfeld, 30, shot Antwon three times as he fled a car after a traffic stop. According to Allegheny County police, Antwon was a passenger in a car that authorities suspected of being involved in a nearby shooting. When the officer ordered the driver out of the car, Antwon and another passenger "bolted" from the vehicle, and Rosfeld opened fire, striking the teenager, police said.In response to his death, several groups shut down highways and intersections across Pittsburgh during protests last year, demanding accountability for Antwon's death. He was shot on the right side of his face, right elbow and to the right of his spine."Three shots in the back. How you justify that?" the protesters had chanted. Those who knew Antwon described him as a generous, promising student who volunteered regularly at a free store that provided clothes, food and other items to members of the community.Jurors to be selected from another countyRosfeld faces a criminal homicide charge in a trial expected to begin March 19. Under Pennsylvania law, criminal homicide includes murder, voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter.Jurors will be selected from Dauphin County, which is about 200 miles from Pittsburgh, after a ruling that the publicity around the case had affected the jury pool in Allegheny County. The selected jurors from Dauphin County will be brought to Pittsburgh for the trial, 1711

In a chaotic incident that lasted more than hour, inmates inside a maximum security section at Lewis Prison repeatedly set fires outside of their cells, eventually forcing the evacuation of the entire unit. It happened on November 8, 2018 in the Rast Max Unit. Surveillance video obtained by KNXV television station shows a team of officers watched much of the destruction unfold with little or no intervention. The reason: Top officials inside the prison directed the staff to let inmates get it out of their system and avoid calling a critical incident, which would have to be thoroughly documented and sent to the Arizona Department of Corrections’ headquarters. As a result of this story, those top officials are no longer employed with the Department of Corrections. “The warden and the deputy warden of this unit, they were watching this cluster going on saying we want to minimize this,” said Carlos Garcia, a retired lieutenant and union grievance coordinator. “They don’t want anybody to see this and send out the message that we can’t control our prison. They are in fear, fear of this director.” The deputy warden was Jeff Rode, and the warden was Berry Larsen. Both retired Wednesday, the day after ABC15 contacted the state about the incident. KNXV spoke with independent sources who said both Rode and Larsen were aware of the chaotic situation. Outside experts who reviewed video of the incident said it is one of most bizarre, shocking, and poorly-handled incidents they’ve ever seen. 1513
