Construction began in February 1967 and two years later, then-California Gov. Ronald Reagan ushered in the iconic structure as the first person to cross over it.Instantly, it changed how San Diegans commuted, mostly replacing ferry service used to cross San Diego Bay for 83 years.The bridge's iconic curve across the bay reaches 200 feet at its highest point, allowing an aircraft carrier to pass underneath its five lanes.Just a few years after the bridge debuted, the Coronado Cays, Coronado Hospital, and Coronado Shores condo community opened and Richard Nixon hosted the first state dinner held outside of the White House at Hotel del Coronado. Chargers fans meeting us all along the way.People lining the street to welcome us and a massive rally at the high school gym.And the Chargers fight song rang out, too. A lopsided loss; 49ers trounced our guys, 49 to 26, but it was an electrifying time for Chargers fans.Every year the Padres home opener is a day-long party. These Angels of the Jungle built a hospital and treated these fragile refugees.There are angels out in force every spring at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. The Celebration of Champions honors the doctors and nurses at Rady Children's Hospital and raises the spirits of hundreds of children and their families fighting to live healthy, happy lives. Sports figures and media types running with these champions and honoring those tearfully paying homage to the ones who've passed. It's an emotional day.4th of July is a blast! Thousands descend on Scripps Ranch each year. Snow Summit was a bit colder but a fabulous time as well.Finally we remember a little Lakeside girl: an Angel in Heaven, Hero on Earth, Forever in our Hearts. Kiera Larsen was ten years old when the family SUV began rolling down the driveway toward her playmates. She ran over and pushed two younger friends to safety but was crushed to death herself. Kiera was recognized with a Carnegie Hero medal and a personal letter from then President Barack Obama. We celebrate Kiera. 2918

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say no foul play was involved with human remains discovered in a fire pit last month.The remains were discovered by a man on Oct. 29, 2020, just after 10:30 a.m. in the fire pit located on the east end of Fiesta Island, according to police. A forensic anthropologist confirmed images sent by police indicated that the remains were human.RELATED: Possible human remains found in Fiesta Island fire pitPolice said after a thorough investigation, it was determined that while the man died in the fire pit, no foul play was suspected.Investigators say the remains have been identified as a 79-year-old Hispanic man, though his name was not released.Anyone with information is asked to call SDPD's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 801

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some San Diego salon owners say the regulations released by the state may not be enough to help save their businesses.Like other business owners around San Diego and across California, salon owner Season McKesson has been trying to navigate through the many changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.Through the pandemic, she and other business owners have had to deal with closures, implementing safety precautions, and obtaining personal protective equipment.RELATED: New guidance issued for hair/nail salons, barbershops to move outdoorsOn Monday, the state announced updated guidelines for hair salons and barbershops to operate outdoors.McKesson was prepared to reopen her salon to operate outside until she read the regulations thoroughly. According to the state’s guidelines, salons can reopen but they cannot offer any chemical-related treatments and cannot shampoo customers.“At first, I was trying to be optimistic; you know, giving our industry a way out to come back … but after they dropped the bomb that it’s only haircuts. Reality sets in, and there’s absolutely no way people are going to make ends meet,” she said.McKesson told ABC 10News the guidelines cuts what she believes are essential to the salon experience.She added, “You go to a salon for a certain experience and you’re going to sit and get sprayed down in 100-degree weather. There’s no way.”McKesson is also concerned about the space to operate outdoors, saying not many salons have patios and would have to move into parking spaces. She is similarly worried about the cleanliness of working outside.“It’s not sanitary. It’s not a controlled environment; sitting behind a chair is a controlled environment. I know it’s being cleaned and I know what’s being touched,” McKesson said.Several other salon owners around San Diego County told ABC 10News they are leaning towards not reopening because of the rules, which puts them in an already tough financial situation as they try to keep their businesses alive. 2021
