SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Holiday Bowl officials said Thursday that its 43rd annual football game will not be played this year.Due to the pandemic, the bowl's Board of Directors voted unanimously to cancel the December game, which has been played since 1978. The bowl’s traditional Bowl Week events had already been canceled for this year, including the Holiday Bowl Parade.Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville said that in addition to challenges in holding the game safely for fans, the virus had, "created a situation in that we wouldn’t be able to welcome fans, ultimately resulting in no tourism. "Obviously it increaeses the revenue for the hotel, which is fantastic."The 2020 Holiday Bowl was supposed to be the first of a new six-year cycle to match top teams in the PAC-12 and ACC. The game is expected to return in 2021, according to 2020 Bowl Association President Dan Moore."We are fortunate to have a strong relationship with our title sponsor SDCCU, FOX Sports, the ACC, the Pac-12 and many others. While we all share the disappointment with the decision, each has been understanding and very supportive," Moore said.It is uncertain, however, where the game will be played. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Employees at a Little Caesars franchise location in Logan Heights say their paychecks are bouncing and management is not responding to their concerns. The workers say the problems started in March, and they told 10News they've received paychecks, only to have them bounce a few days later and racking up banking fees every time. The employees 10News spoke to, from the National Avenue location, did not want to be identified. When they spoke out to supervisors, the employees claimed they were told to not to bother upper management. Other times, they said, they were left in the dark with no response. Employees identified the owner as Tony Bith, saying he owns at least a dozen Little Caesars locations throughout San Diego County. The one in Barrio Logan on Main Street is also closed; the National City Location on Plaza Boulevard is still open. 10News tried to reach Bith by phone but did not hear back as of the publication of this story. 10News also attempted to make contact with him at his home address, but could not access him because he lives in a gated community. 10News reached out to Little Caesars corporate to find out if they were aware of what was going on and they sent the following statement: 1243

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Erica Norman spent months saving thousands for a cruise down the Mexican Riviera on the massive Norwegian Bliss. Norman and about 4,000 others boarded that ship this week and were whisked away from the Port of Los Angeles. They were excited for a trip down to Cabo and Mazatlan - but instead, they wound up in San Francisco."I paid ,000 for this cruise and it's just a tour going in a circle in California," said Norman, who lives in Orange County. "I'm not happy about that."Norman said that about two hours into the cruise, the passengers got an announcement that the ship would divert to San Francisco, San Diego, and make one stop in Ensenada before heading back to Los Angeles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Fixing San Diego’s streets was one of Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s top priorities when he took office, and now he believes they’re on schedule to reach his goal of repairing more than 3,000 miles of roads.About a decade ago, it took crews an entire year to get about 24 miles of street repairs done in the city. Now, crews are averaging 25 miles of street repair a month.Kris McFadden, director of San Diego’s Transportation & Storm Water Department, said the pandemic helped them get the work done without causing much backups on the roads.“We staggered working times, people coming in different times. So, we were able to do a lot of repairs, especially when people weren’t driving on the roads,” said McFadden.Faulconer said, “When I ran for mayor, there was no issue that San Diegans complained about more than streets, so we have been on a mission over the past six years to bring smooth streets to neighborhoods across the city. We overhauled the repair program to speed up fixes, made record investments in street repair, and are on pace to fix half of all City streets by the end of the year. The robust program we now have in place fixes hundreds of miles annually and I strongly encourage the next Mayor to keep the pedal to the metal until every San Diegan can experience a freshly paved street outside their front door.”In a news release, city officials said crews “completed repair work on some of the City’s busiest streets including completing repairs to North Harbor Drive, Fairmont Avenue, Montezuma Road, and a network of streets in Mission Bay that have not seen a major facelift in nearly two decades. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Despite the pandemic, Veterans Village of San Diego held its annual Stand Down event that helps hundreds of veterans facing homelessness every year.From a glance, this year’s event may seem different. Not as many people were there and stations were more spaced out than normal. But the mission remained the same, reaching out to veterans who are at risk or homeless.Darcy Pavich, the Stand Down director, says the goal is to provide Veterans with the resources they need. Whether it’s housing services, medical referrals, or employment services."It’s difficult for them right now to connect with the services because so many doors are closed," says Pavich.What is also different this year is making sure COVID-19 health guidelines are followed. From requiring masks, to hand sanitizing, and making sure everyone practiced social distancing.This took a lot more planning and preparation to make sure Veterans and Volunteers stayed safe.But even with the changes, Pavich says the simple gesture of reaching out to Veterans made a big impact on those that showed up. "It brings a smile to them and they may not have a lot to smile about right now," she said. "I can never find a good reason why a Veteran should not be housed, safe, and comfortable in their own life." 1292
