He ended up converting his van to include a fridge, a fold out bed, lighting and uses a bucket with kitty litter for the restroom. Now a year later, he’s embraced van life and says it provides a chance to travel and save money.“It’s more freedom, but at the same time it’s more responsibility,” Allen said.Allen isn’t alone. During a weekend meet-up, around 300 vans and van-lifers packed Fiesta Island to explore each other's vans, and discuss life on the road.Liz Bryant, who works as a social media influencer, is living in a converted Mercedes sprinter van. She said she started living in her van for the freedom. “We don’t want to be tied down to an apartment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two children suffered injuries Monday when a pick-up truck driven by an elderly man hit tables and parked cars outside a University City Starbucks.The crash happened about 8 a.m. outside the coffee shop at 3202 Governor Drive at Regents Road, according to San Diego Police. The Starbucks is near the University City Post Office.The 85-year-old man driving the truck jumped the curb, crashing into customers.A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police did not release details about her condition. A 2-year-old girl had an injury to her lip but did not need further treatment.San Diego Police have not announced what caused the crash. 689

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two tropical storms bearing down on the Eastern Pacific have forced a Norwegian Bliss cruise ship to abandon its original route and stop in San Diego.The stopover for the cruise ship came just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The ship was originally scheduled to sail from Los Angeles to several ports in Mexico but was forced to change that route due to tropical storms Willa and Vicente.The new route has the cruise ship heading for San Francisco to San Diego to Ensenada, Mexico. The ship is scheduled to depart from San Diego at 6 p.m. Wednesday.Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement that guests were alerted to the modified itinerary as soon as possible."Due to Hurricane Willa and Tropical Storm Vincente in the Eastern Pacific, we modified Norwegian Bliss’ itinerary from Los Angeles," the cruise line said. "Our onboard team is working to ensure the best vacation experience possible given these weather-related changes."Tropical storm Willa was downgraded from a Category 5 Hurricane Wednesday, but still made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While the visible reminders of local wildfires may be gone, San Diego fire officials say what’s left over can still cause a lot of problems especially as the region expects to get rain this weekend.After an intense wildfire happens, the burned vegetation and charred soil forms a water repellant layer that blocks water absorption -- which means the next time it rains, there’s potential for flooding.Cal Fire wants to remind residents to prepare before the rain arrives.Thomas Shoots, a spokesperson for Cal Fire, said, “Anyone near the Valley Fire needs to be prepared for any type of debris or mud flows. They need to have sandbags and the area around their home prepped so that everything looks OK.”In September, the county gave residents free supplies to make sandbags so people could begin their preps for the rainy season.County information on free sandbag availability can be found here.The City of San Diego is also offering sandbags for residents. It becomes even more complicated when figuring out the best use of your skills and the career path that will pay the bills. “I think STEM majors are very important because that’s kind of the direction we are heading toward,” said Andrea Villanueva, a first-generation college student at UC San Diego majoring in Global Health. Villanueva has her sights set on medical school, hoping to become an OB/GYN. The median income for the career in San Diego County is 5,000.
