BALTIMORE — It's not just the news of a Free Little Library being vandalized that is turning heads in a Baltimore community. The narration of the crime itself is worth its weight in laughter."I thought it was hilarious when I sped it up and cut it," said Jacqui Cummings. "I said to myself, 'you don't need to fight over it, just make a joke of it.'"The initial vandalism happened on November 7th around 8 p.m. outside Notre Maison Connects. The non-profit focuses on empowering youth while supporting families and strengthening communities.Cummings is the founder of the organization. She said when she first saw the damage, she shed a tear."I did because I do a lot of work myself," she said.Cummings is no stranger to hands-on-work. Not only did she do metal-work to create the Free Little Library, she's experienced in hard labor, helping build day-care centers in other countries."I love giving back and educating," she said.In light of the vandalism Cummings launched a community book drive. BALTIMORE — Baltimore City Fire officials are investigating a Wednesday morning explosion at the BGE office building downtown.In total, 23 people were rescued from various parts of the building.Fire officials say 21 of them have been taken to the hospital. At least nine are in serious or critical condition.According to a statement, BGE said the 21 contractors were treated at area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.BGE said two individuals rescued were window washers who became trapped high atop a scaffold on the side of the building. Severe damage has been reported from the tenth floor of the building all the way up to the roof, which partially collapsed. 680

At a rally in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, President Donald Trump gloated about reporters who were injured and shoved to the ground while covering protests and riots earlier this summer.While sharing anecdotes about the unrest in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd, Trump referred to an "idiot reporter from CNN with the shaved head" who "got hit on the knee with a canister of tear gas."Trump was likely referring to MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi, who was hit with a rubber bullet fired by the National Guard while covering the protests in Minneapolis.Later referred to an unidentified reporter who was thrown aside "like a bag of popcorn" as police attempted to clear out protesters.Both accounts garnered laughter and applause from the large crowd in attendance."When you see it, it's actually a beautiful sight. It's a beautiful sight," Trump said, referring to police clearing out protesters.It was the second time in less than a week that Trump has mocked Velshi's injury. ATLANTA — Georgia’s top elections official says his office is investigating potential election law violations by groups working to register voters ahead of January's Senate runoffs. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger named four groups his office is specifically investigating: America Votes, Vote Forward, The New Georgia Project and Operation New Voter Registration Georgia. He says some groups are allegedly encouraging people outside the state to register to vote in January's Senate run-off election, according to The Hill. “We have opened an investigation into a group called America Votes, who is sending absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994,” Raffensperger said Monday in announcing the investigations. America Votes responded to the accusations in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, saying they have mailed applications to those on the list of voters maintained by Raffensperger's office. The secretary is also punching back at claims that fraud has tainted the state’s presidential election. Raffensperger said dishonest actors are exploiting the emotions of many Trump supporters with fantastic claims and apparently misleading the president as well. He said during a news conference Monday that his office has 23 investigators probing 250 open cases alleging some kind of election law violation, but none of them cast doubt on the integrity of the state's election results. 1461

One woman understands that more than most.To Myrna Hayutin the photos on her gallery wall are more than pictures of the past. She points out some of the art on display.  "This is a limited edition signed by Carl Mydans," Hayutin said. "This is Babe Ruth the last time he put on his uniform."These are works of art."It is history," Hayutin said. "It's just knowledge."And for the last 35 years she's been selling fine art like these pieces, despite the fact that she's legally blind."I anticipate doing this for at least another 10 years," Hayutin said. "As long as my eyesight holds."Hayutin started losing her eyesight when she was eight due to retinitis pigmentosa. And over the years, it's gotten progressively worse."It's like an island," Hayutin said. "As the disease progresses the island gets smaller and smaller now I see through two straws. So you may be standing right here but I am not seeing you. Or if were talking and you move I'll lose you."Still it hasn't affected her love for art or her determination to purse it as a career."It never occurred to me to stop me from doing anything that I really wanted to do," Hayutin said.Hayutin runs a successful international fine art gallery, Gallery M, and recently became an art appraiser."I'm looking at the artwork but honestly thank goodness with my devices I can really zoom in and see them much, much better," Hayutin said.Hayutin said her dog, Gouda, helps her navigate the changes in her eyesight, but what helps most is not focusing on what could happen."I would never have opened the gallery if I was fearful of what would be instead of what was at that time," Hayutin said. "I try to live in today and use the eyesight that I have today."Hayutin said every day is what you make it."There are some days where I'm not as positive as I should be, but I try it," Hauytin said. "I try to get back on that positive I mean because I'm surrounded by all of this gorgeous art and that's very uplifting."  2212
