SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Marine killed in a motorcycle crash on I-15 Friday has been identified as 21-year-old Logan Parkhurst.The crash happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Miramar Way just after 6:30 a.m.According to the California Highway Patrol, Parkhurst hit the back of a Toyota while attempting to exit onto Miramar Way, causing him to be ejected. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge is expected to decide whether to release a sexually violent predator into the Jacumba Hot Springs area.Joseph Bocklett, a convicted repeat sex offender, had a placement hearing Monday morning. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, it was held virtually. ABC 10News wasn’t given permission to record it, but we did monitor what happened inside of the courtroom.The Department of State Hospitals wants to put the 75-year-old Bocklett in a home in Jacumba -- after a Judge denied a proposal to move him into a home in Pauma Valley.Bocklett was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19-year period involving victims between the ages of 4 and 9, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. He was last sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term and later civilly committed to Coalinga State Hospital to undergo treatment.Though the public wasn’t allowed to physically be inside of he courtroom, they’ve been working to make sure their voices are heard, protesting this recommendation.They have got pages of signatures from residents in the East County. A few of them gathered near the courthouse holding signs expressing their concerns about the possibility of another sex offender being placed in their community.Among that group Melissa Woodall and her daughter. Woodall said rural East County shouldn’t always be the first choice when it comes to placing sexually violent predators.Woodall said, "It’s awful, it really is. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pregnant San Diego County woman found a shocking discovery in her baby’s ultrasound picture: what appears to be a photo of her late father kissing her unborn daughter. Shantel Carrillo, who’s five and a half months pregnant with her second child, had the medical exam Monday at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. She didn’t expect the photograph to go viral. “I didn’t see it; I just posted the original picture online,” said Carrillo. Friends quickly pointed out the ultrasound image resembled a picture of Carrillo’s father Charles, who died in 2016, holding Carrillo’s oldest daughter Myree. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local family says they were fighting to get back thousands of dollars in family heirlooms. They only got answers, they say, after Team 10 stepped in. "It makes me sick. It's really emotional," said Jill Robertson of Escondido. We interviewed Jill with her son, Jon, and his girlfriend, Megan Gielczyk. Jill and Jon shared with us a few of the limited old pictures they could find of their family heirlooms.She pointed to a photo of her late father wearing a ring. It was one of the pieces of sentimental jewelry that she said her family had given to local jeweler Mark Himmel to redesign. Jon said he was planning to use one of the rings to propose to his girlfriend but he added that the proposal and engagement were put on hold because Himmel hadn't returned their jewelry. Records verify that Himmel operates Sa-Ling Jewelry Imports Incorporated in San Diego. The Robertsons said it was Aug. 12 when they gave him a down payment to redesign thousands of dollars in family jewelry. They said they had expected to have the job completed in two to three weeks, but we met with them almost two and a half months after they wrote out a down payment check."There's evasion. He's constantly evading," said Jill. Jon's girlfriend, Megan, told us Himmel hung up the phone on her. San Diego police confirm they showed up to Himmel's home, where he operates his business, to try to get answers. However, no one came to the door. Two days after Team 10 left Himmel a voicemail, the Robertsons said they got a priority mail package with some of the heirlooms, but not all of them. They said there was no explanation for the wait time or behavior. It was early last week when Team 10 started making calls and leaving voicemails for Himmel. None of Team 10's calls were returned.We made a second attempt to visit him in-person this Thursday and were successful. He told us he's sending out the remaining pair of earrings on Thursday and he will soon send a remaining gold nugget."It took two months this time because I handmade the ring," he told us.He spoke to Team 10 later over the phone. He said he was responsive to the Robertsons about his slight delays. He sent us what he said was a screenshot of a text exchange from mid-September when he notified them that the job would likely take another three weeks and they thanked him.  A representative with the California Franchise Tax Board notified Team 10 that Sa-Ling Jewelry Imports Inc. in San Diego was suspended on 07-03-2017 for unpaid liability with a current billable balance of ,336.81. The Better Business Bureau verified that the Robertsons filed a complaint. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man is searching for the good Samaritan who pulled him from a rip current in La Jolla this week.Patrick Fitzpatrick was swimming at Windansea Beach Tuesday."It took a snap second before I was in control to completely out of control," Fitzpatrick recalled, after becoming caught in a rip current. "There was no way on Earth that I was going to live from this. I was in a panic. I couldn't use my arms and legs now."Someone on shore, only known as "Dustin," noticed Fitzpatrick struggling and swam out to help him."He's a guardian angel. He owe him my life, he saved my life," Fitzpatrick says.Dustin swam out and kept Fitzpatrick calm before more help could arrive and get him to shore.Fitzpatrick is hoping to reunite with his mystery rescuer to say thank you."The humanity that comes from an act of kindness like this, from a perfect stranger," Fitzpatrick said. 892
