SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 16-year-old boy with a remote-controlled car tried to send 50 packages of methamphetamine across the border, U.S. Border Patrol agents said Tuesday. Agents were guarding the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday at 12:30 a.m. when they saw a person with two duffel bags walking along the secondary border wall. One of the agents who responded to the scene saw the boy hiding in thick brush. He had a remote-controlled car and 55 pounds of meth, agents said. The boy was arrested and will face smuggling charges. Ring video shows a man on his stomach, around 2 a.m. Saturday, in Curtis Both's driveway off Morena Boulevard. In his hand is Both's garage door opener."My car was ransacked. The remote was in the center console," said Both.The man in the video likely pushed the button for the garage, just slightly. "He wanted to peer in to see what was there," said Both.Moments later, the garage door is heard opening. The man then walks in, before eventually leaving. About two hours later, that man is back with a friend. A camera mounted inside the garage shows them collecting items from the garage."Horrible. A complete violation," said Both.Airsoft gear, ski equipment, power tools, a pricey road bike were among the items that would vanish.A week earlier, about a mile away, a man with a similar backpack and high socks was recorded putting down the backpack and getting on his knees to shine a flashlight at a garage door. Soon after, he's seen heading across the street. That light inside Matt Friend's SUV comes on. Tucked in the door panel is the garage remote. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A brief pursuit involving a stolen BMW ended Wednesday morning near a nursing home parking lot.The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday when a new model BMW was reported stolen in Santee.Two hours later, San Diego police spotted the BMW traveling westbound on state Route 94 near the Euclid Avenue exit.When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to pull over and sped away. With police in pursuit, the BMW made its way onto northbound Interstate 805, then transitioned to Interstate 15.The driver exited on Adams Avenue, crashed into a wall, and then got back on northbound I-15.After exiting Camino Del Rio South, police said the driver parked the stolen BMW in a nursing home parking lot in Mission Valley and ran away. The group was on a 21-foot boat looking for yellowtail when they came across the orcas. "Out of nowhere, one of them popped up right next to the boat 3 or 4 feet away from me…landed, splashed me, and splashed the whole side of the boat. I screamed,” witness Nathan Benge told Good Morning America. One of the killer whales had a playful interaction, performing a belly roll beneath the surface of the boat’s wake, GMA reported. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two U.S. Navy service members were sentenced in San Diego federal court Friday for their roles in an insurance fraud scheme that involved making false medical claims to a military insurance program in exchange for unearned benefits.Ronald Olmsted, 48, of Mobile, Alabama, and Anthony Coco, 43, of San Diego, are among 11 defendants indicted for allegedly filing false claims to the Traumatic Servicemembers Group Life Insurance Program. Prosecutors say the scheme defrauded the program of nearly million total.Olmsted was sentenced to four months in prison, followed by four months of home detention, which will be served as part of three years of supervised release. Coco received four months of home detention to be served as part of three years of probation.The U.S. Attorney's Office said the scheme was led by co-defendant Christopher Toups, 43, of Woodstock, Georgia, a former Chief Petty Officer construction mechanic who allegedly recruited Olmsted, Coco and other service members to create and file fraudulent claims to the Traumatic Servicemembers Group Life Insurance Program -- or TSGLI -- which compensates service members who suffer serious, debilitating injuries while on active duty.Prosecutors say Toups ran the scheme with assistance from U.S. Navy Commander Dr. Michael Villarroel, the medical doctor for the unit where Toups worked, and Kelene Meyer, a former Navy nurse who Toups was married to during the time of the offenses.Olmsted claimed that he was injured in a 2011 rappelling accident and fell down a flight of stairs in 2012, which left him unable to care for himself or do basic tasks. He received 5,000 from the TSGLI, and prosecutors say he sent ,000 to Toups.Coco alleged he reported on medical forms that he broke both ankles in a fall that left him confined to a wheelchair.
